Greetings all; My first posting on the new list. My great great grand parents were WILLIAM HOUGHTON and SARAH JANE McGRATH. They married at Birkenhead Parish Church (where was that?) on 1st July 1855. William (a baker by occupation) was the son of William Houghton who was "an organist" who would have employed an organist in the 1850's? Sarah Jane was the daughter of Joseph McGrath who was a shop keeper Are there any directories where he might be listed? Witnesses were John Edwards and Jane Donohue. No addresses were given, they were both of "full age" On 14th April 1859 at 93 Brook Street (area?) they had a daughter Sarah Catherine. In the 1881 census she was in service for a family called Hengler in Liverpool. She married Henry Alexander Sim in Liverpool in 1883; on the marriage certificate her fathers occupation looks like "coin sampler" (what was that?). She had six children, my grand father was her last, she died shortly afterwards aged just 36. Any help or information would be much appreciated. Alan Westbury sub Mendip
