Hi listers I know it's longer and more involved than most messages but I thought I would let you know why I've joined this new list On my surname side I can go back to: Joseph PAYNE/PAINE c1762-1839 a widower (possibly from Thrapston, NTH, ENG) married Jane ROWE c1784-1850 in Great Addington, NTH, ENG, 29th March 1813. Their children were: Joseph bn c1813; Benjamin bn c1815; Ann c1821-1841; James bn & d 1823; William bn & d 1823; James c1825-1888 m 1848 Harriet BEEBY c1831-1897; Eliza c1827-1829. The children of James PAYNE/PAINE and Harriet BEEBY were William chr 1850; Robert chr 1856; James chr 1859; John chr 1860, d 1907; David chr 1863 m Margaret ?, d 1943; Sarah Jane chr 1867; Eliza chr 1867; Benjamin chr 1871, d 1931. [All christened Great Addington.] Most of this branch remained Great Addington 1813-?1914. William PAYNE m Jane CARL(E)TON 1874 Appleby,WES,ENG. Their children were Harriet b 1875 Kirkby Stephen,WES,ENG; James b 1877 Mordale Moor,YKS,ENG; Sarah Jane "Jinny" b 1879 Swallow Hill,Distington,CUL,ENG or Barrow-in Furness,LAN,ENG; Robert 1882 and David 1884 Barrow-in-Furness,LAN,ENG; Eliza and John b 1886, d 1886. Jane also died in 1886 at Hunderthwaite, Teesdale,DUR,ENG. William married again this time to Catherine "Kate" Callaghan 1891 in Romaldkirk,YKS,ENG. In 1891 they lived at Grassholme Reservoir near Mickleton,YKS and Hury,Baldeisdale,DUR,ENG. Their children were born Hurry,Hunderthwaite, DUR,ENG; Waskerley,Muggleswick RD,ENG; Hisehope Reservoir, Muggleswick RD,ENG; Mickleton,YKS,ENG; West Pasture, Mickleton,YKS,ENG. William d1913 in Consett,DUR,ENG. Most of this branch lives in or around Middleton-in-Teesdale,DUR,ENG. James PAYNE, my Grandfather, m Margaret COPELAND c1900 DUR,ENG. Their children were Robert b1903 and David b1905 both born in Muggleswick,YKS,ENG; James b1908, one brother and two sisters were all born in Birkenhead,CHS,ENG. James d 1950 and his wife Margaret d1952 both in Birkenhead,CHS,ENG. This branch of the family still lives in the Liverpool/Birkenhead area. My father, James, was born at 28 Patten Street but unfortunately the house was destroyed during the blitz. He came out on his own to Australia in 1926 and then to New Zealand in 1927.
