Hello To All, can anyone tell me the birth date and parents names of the Joseph ROBERTS in this story. I have all of these people in my "tree" but need a few extra details. George BARLOW was a crew member of the deep-sea trawler of 35 tons, named Ben Bulbin Hawk, commonly known as The Hawk. I would like to know the rest of the story if somebody has a copy of it please. Rammed by American Steamer The "Liverpool Mercury" March 9 1861. On March 3 1861 with a full load of fish, the trawler had proceeded up the Mersey River to Liverpool and, having passed the landing stage turned to enter the dock when she was run down and sunk by the American screw steamer "African" at 3.30 pm. Young William Jackson, the lad, sprang to safety on to the steam tug "Emperor" which also rescued Joseph Roberts a member of the crew. The members of the tug's crew fished Thomas Sherlock out of the water. He was still alive but died in spite of all efforts to resuscitate him. So he is described on his tomb stone as "died and not drowned" Thomas Jackson was later taken from the Mersey by the tug's crew, but he was dead. George Barlow could not be found, and it was not until (The rest of the story was not readable) I'd like to hear from the people with BARLOW, JACKSON, ROBERTS and SHERLOCK interests. Kind Regards fron Anne in Australia.
