Hi To All, is this a Riddle or Not? The clock of my mother Frances Holme that was given to her by her mother, Alice Holme (formally Wright). She had it from her aunt Betty who lived in the neighbourhood of Gatacre (near Liverpool) who died at the age of 90, when Aunt Duncan was about 9 years old" It was an old clock when Betty Wright came into possession of it. List of owners of the clock which has been passed on to the eldest female of the family. Betty WRIGHT, Alice HOLME nee WRIGHT, Frances ANDERSON nee HOLME, Anna BOYLE nee ANDERSON, Jean RICE nee BOYLE. Many years ago, I heard about a Grandfather Clock that was passed down through the eldest daughter of each generation. Being the eldest daughter of the BOYLE family, my ears pricked up and I was intrigued. On a vist to my Aunt in Surrey, I was able to see this clock, but I was more interested in the list of names of previous owners that was kept inside the clock. My Aunt had kept this list and she showed it to me. There was a little note written by my Great Grandmother Anna ANDERSON, who was born in Birkenhead in 1859. She must have been a young child when she wrote out the note and list. I had done quite a few years of research on the ANDERSON family tree before I was made aware of this list. Imagine my glee when all the names on the list checked out as my line of descent. Anna had listed the names of several generations of women who had inherited the clock. This confirmed that the research I had done was correct. However, it set me a puzzle that I still have not solved. I come back to it every now and then. It is a teaser, as I have not come accross the name Duncan for a female, was it her christian name or surmane? I have not been able to find out who Aunt Duncan was. Is anyone researching the names BOYLE, ANDERSON, HOLME and WRIGHT? Kind Regards from Anne in Australia.
