    3. Hi Anne Had a look a Burial Register at Birkenhead Library but you did not say whether he was Cof E (nothing there from Sept-Dec1918) Catholic or non Confromist. 3. Hi Rita, I don't think so - my Mutch's seem to be mostly stone quarriers back in the 1800s (not managed to trace beyond that yet). I doubt I'll come across a lawyer amongst them but will certainly let you know if I do! No lawyers in recent years either as far as I know.... Good luck with your search, Susan On 9/2/06, ritas <rita.seewooruttun@ntlworld.com> wrote: > Hello Susan, by any chance do you have a Mr Mutch who was a laywer? > Rita > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Susan Mutch" <susan.mutch@gmail.com> > To: <BIRKENHEAD@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Saturday, September 02, 2006 2:26 PM > Subject: [BIRKENHEAD] Gravestones at St Oswald's Church, Bidston - > MUTCH,STANLEY, WHARTON (also HALEWOOD, DAVIES, PLUNKETT) > > > >I recently returned to the UK for a holiday and took the opportunity > > to go home and visit St Oswalds Church, Bidston to see if would help > > my research of the MUTCH family tree (inc. 1. [BIRKENHEAD] Gravestones at St Oswald's Church, Bidston - MUTCH, STANLEY, WHARTON (also HALEWOOD, DAVIES, PLUNKETT)
    2. Susan Mutch
    3. I recently returned to the UK for a holiday and took the opportunity to go home and visit St Oswalds Church, Bidston to see if would help my research of the MUTCH family tree (inc. YOUDS, STANLEY, WHARTON). I took photos of the following gravestones which I've transcribed below. If these are any use to anyone and you would like a copy of the photos of any of the gravestones or of the church itself then please feel free to contact me and I'll forward on. Also I'm trying to track my ancestor Thomas Mutch (b. approx 1825 in Meols per various census reports) who was the son of a William Mutch, labourer, according to Thomas' marriage certificate to Mary Youds of 25 January 1852). Looking at the Cheshire Parish Register database online, Thomas could be the son of William Mutch and Margaret Parr as the location and dates seem to fit, however I can't be sure at present. Also I can't find any of them on the 1841 and 1851 census to help make the connection. If anyone has any further info on any of these people or any suggestions as to how I could confirm Thomas' parents as he was born pre 1837 I would love to hear from you. Anyway, here are the gravestone inscriptions mentioned (copied to the best of my ability but some were a little faint!): 1. Elizabeth, wife of Robert Mutch who died March 10th, 1890, aged 47. John Halewood who died March 3rd, 1876, aged 57 years. Also John, grandson of the above, who died March 26th, 1879, aged 8 months. Also Thomas Mutch, his brother, who died July 4th, 1894. aged 3 weeks. Also Nancy, widow of above, who died February 8th, 1911, aged 92 years. At rest. Also Margaret their youngest daughter, who died July 14th, 1911, aged 51 years. 4. In memory of Elizabeth, wife of George Much, died November 15th, 1870, aged 65 years. Also of the above George Much, died April 21st, 1873, aged 78 years. Also Jane Davies his sister. Died August 11th, 1887, aged 79 years. 5. In memory of Margaret daughter of John and Margaret Wharton, died August 21st 1865, aged 10 months. Also of Joseph their son, died February, 26th, 1873 aged 8 years. Also of William their son, died February 14th, 1893 aged ? 44 years. Also of John their son died April 15th, 1830 or 1890 aged ? 39 years. Also the above Margaret Wharton died March 11th 1896 aged 72 years. Also Ada beloved wife of Joseph Wharton died October 22nd, 1919 aged 54 years. 3. Can anyone tell me if civil records are kept of exhumations and where they may be found? I have an instance of a burial in 1918 in Wirral of someone from outside the UK. I think that the body was later exhumed and reinterred in their home country. Cheshire Record Office has not been able to help me. David

    3. Thanks to all for the responses on St Werburghs - very enlightening. I must have been right past it when I visited nearly 2 years ago, but I wasn't looking for it then! Bruce, Australia Interests: HANAGHAN (B'head area 1850s - 1920s), ATKIN (B'head & Liverpool 1880s - 1920s)
