Hello List, I am really beside myself. What I know for sure is my Grandfather was James FULTON born Oct 24, 1883, Birkenhead, Eng. His parents were Thomas and Rebecca (nee FOGG ) Now I have them in the 1881 census : Dwelling 26, Pool street. Birkenhead, Eng. Thomas FULTON 29 Birkenhead, Rebecca FULTON 23, Seacombe, Cheshire, Eng. I also have them in the 1891 census with there son James. at 8 yrs of age. And I have them married at Saint Nicholas Church, Liverpool. Jan 21, 1877. All this looks good. I have not found a Thomas FULTON born in Birkenhead in 1852.(OK the census leads me to believe he was born in Birkenhead ) right ? But my path has taken me to Thomas FULTON born in (Hoose, Hoylake ) were I thought I had many members of this family. Am I on the wrong path. (Should I still be looking in Birkenhead )?? How can I find Thomas FULTON born in Birkenhead 1852 ?? Any help would be grately appreciated.Thank You. Pat and Bill pat0bill@telusplanet.net

Greetings from Burke, Virginia, USA, I posted some information in the CHESHIRE-L website, but will add some additional information here. The only information I have on the FARRALL family is from the Birkenhead News, dated June 1950. That is when my great grandmother, Mary Farrall, turn 100. She was born Mary BEBINGTON, in Lower Bebington 06/06/1850. The article mentioned that she was married to John Farrall, who died in 1911. Initially they lived at 43 Brombro Road, Trafalgar, then moved to 48 Park Road, Port Sunlight in 1890. Mary moved in with her unmarried daughter at 3 Barnard Road, Oxton in 1925. Son George continued to live at the FARRALL residence until his death (unknown). May attended St Saviours Church in Oxton. I am seeking information on Susan, George, Thomas, and Hannah FARRALL. The only other information I have is that the elder John Farrall worked for "Price's, Bromborough" - what is that?? Also, Trafalgar is no longer on the map - does it exist any longer? If one were a resident ! of Port Sunlight, at the turn of the century, which Church of England would they attend and which schools would the children attend? Is there any access to old Lever Brother employee records? I know this is a lot, but any assistance would be appreciated. Regards, John Farrall Burke Virginia Researching: FARRALL, Cheshire BEBINGTON, Birkenhead DAWSON, Liverpool WHITEHEAD, Liverpool

Hi My current (& only) Birkenhead puzzle is; I am looking for any information on a Laurence Daniel KIRBY, born about 1843, a barrister at law. >From his April 17, 1872 marriage certificate I know the following, Laurence lived at 82 Claughton Road (I think), Birkenhead. He married Louise MOUBERT age 20, of Garswood House, Ashton in Makerfield. They were married in St. Oswald's Chapel in Wigan. Laurence's father was an Edmund KIRBY (dec), a wine merchant. Louise's father was Adolphus MOUBERT of Garswood House, a land agent. Witnesses to the marriage were an Edmund KIRBY and a Joseph KIRBY. Adolphus was still living a Garswood House with about 4 servants in 1881 but Laurence and Louise seem to have vanished off the face of the earth or at the very least England in 1881. Either they had left the country or were missed in the 1881 census or at least from the LDS CDs of the 1881 census. Suggestions??? Thank you Don in Richmond, BC, Canada Aberdeenshire & maybe Banff??? List, Is there anyone who will be checking the GRO indexes who could do a look up for me? I am in need of the information for the marriage of Samuel Shorthouse to Lydia Weaver in the 1857/58 time period. It would have probably been registered in West Bromwich or Dudley but I am not certain of the precise district. Noticed someone researching this name >From "an assessment for the Land Tax for the township of Bromborow att four shillings in the pound for the year 1778" "Nathaniel MOLONEOUX 2s 5d" for 1779 "Nathaniel MOLENEAUX 2s 10d" In 1791 Nathaniel is not listed but there is something under "parcels rated" Occupiers name: Joseph WARING Parcels rated Mulyneaux's Cottage for 1796 Occupiers name Joseph WAREING Parcels assessed: Moloneaux cottage Caryl
Noticed that someone is reasearching BURTON Right at the bottom of the Bromborough land tax assessment for 1778 is: Joseph BURTON excise officer £10 Did not see him listed for any of the other years that I have Caryl
Had a look at the Bromborough land tax assessments and found the following this entry for the year 1791 Proprieters name John WILLIAMS Occupiers names Thomas BRISCOE Parcels Rated WILLIAM'S and OLERHEADS Dalecrosshey For an explanation of the entry all I can suggest is that many of the "Parcels rated" that is the pieces of land or properties that were taxed are named after the occupants or former occupants of the land or property. Hi Jim, At this time Liverpool and Birkenhead were in different counties - Liverpool in Lancashire and Birkenhead in Cheshire. They have never formed part of the same town/city.
