    3. List My gr-grandfather, Thomas Ramsbottom, grew up in the Dock Cottage area of Birkenhead. His family was from Blackburn, Lancashire where he was born in 1856 right before the family moved to Birkenhead in 1857. In 1881 his parents Henry and Elizabeth were still there with their daughter Elizabeth. I have not seen any records from St. James church, but am under the assumption that this would have been the church they would have used for such things as christenings and marriages. But since this church did not have a graveyard, I am going under the assumption that the family is buried at Flaybrick cemetery. The records for Flaybrick have been recently filmed by the LDS and I am anxiously awaiting the film to become available for viewing. In the meantime, if there is anyone who might have a connection to my Ramsbottom family, I would love to hear from you. If anyone has any queries about Birkenhead or Wirral Family History please don't hesitate to post them here. You may not always have a query answered straight away, it may be one that no-one knows the answer to, or it could be answered when subscribers on digest catch up with their digests days or even weeks later If a query is not answered, post it again at a later date, new subscribers join each day and they may have the answer you are looking for or may be able to provide you with a clue that will help you to carry out further research of your own, every little helps. 2. Hi A new name to my tree brings me to this area. I have Jane YOUNG from Birmingham marrying Timothy MYERS in 1894, his occupation then was a Police Constable. The only Timothy that fits from the 1881 census is living in Tranmere, occupation joiner. His parents are Thompson and Margaret. His siblings, John, Thomas and George. I believe his brother was a well known footballer and am hoping to find a fellow researcher. Thank you Gail E Dixon Warrington

    2. Come on! As the subject line says, .... "What Is Stopping You From Joining The Wirral Memories List?!" There must surely be more than 4 people with memories of Wirral! .... It must be very disheartening to our listowner Caryl, who went out of her way to create a Birkenhead Memories List, and when there were no takers, she changed the title to Wirral Memories, .... believing that this title would generate more interest, ... no such luck! :(( .... 2. john.phillips4
    3. Good Morning One and All I have discovered a fairly convincing connection through the CHESHIRE PARISH REGISTER PROJECT (for whom 3 rousing cheers,) to the RYDER family of GREAT NESTON going back to around 1752 and beyond. The Ryders at Neston married WILBRAHAM, PRI(T)CARD, GREEN, and MATTHEWS amongst others. There were other RYDER families at BIDSTON, WEST KIRBY, MORETON etc who may turn out to be related and the line goes back in one form or another to the mid 16th century. Is anyone else out there descended from any of these or related families, such as the URMSON, or LYON families? If so please get in touch. Many thanks John

    3. The Irving Theatre was opened in Victoria Road (later renamed Borough Road) in Seacombe in 1899 on the site of the demolished "Hope House". My great great grandmother, Elizabeth Clarke nee Simmons, lived nearby in Florence Road. She set herself up in business as a theatrical landlady for artists performing at the theatre. Names of artists who boarded at her house were passed on from generation to generation in the family but the only one I remember is Wee Georgie Wood. Does anyone have any knowledge of Elizabeth or information on the Irving Theatre and who performed there? David Railton

Her parents, George Henry TREADWELL, a bank clerk, and Jane Harriet TREADWELL nee KNOWLES were living at the time at "Colvend", Upton. "Colvend" is described in one record as being in Ford Road and in another as Church Road in Upton. The family later moved to Longland Road in Liscard, then to Montpellier Crescent, New Brighton and 1939 Joan's parents were living at Prospect House, The Parade, Parkgate. I have no further information about Joan. Does anyone know of her? David Railton

    3. Greetings all, I am trying to locate the birth registration for my great aunt Susan FARRALL. She was the daughter of John and Mary FARRALL and was the first of eight children. The 1881 census lists Bebington as the place of birth - 8 years old would equate to 1873 as year of birth(?). Susan lived at 3, Barnard Road, Oxton, Birkenhead in her final years - date of death unknown. She cared for my great grandmother until she died in 1953 at age 103 at the Oxton address. (Birkenhead News reported Mary FARRALL' s 100th birthday.) Susan and her mother, Mary, attended St. Saviours Church (CofE). Any information about Susan FARRALL would be greatly appreciated. 3. Hello Andrew, it was great to see Hoylake mentioned again. I was born in Hoylake in 1942 and a lot of my mother's people were fishermen and lifeboat men. They were the BARLOW, HOUSLEY, BIRD, ECCLES, SHERLOCK and ROBERTS families. I think I have found just about every Hoylake name in my research. Some of the boats that come to mind are: The Lily and The Three Brothers which were owned by John HOUSLEY. Regards from Anne in Australia.
