Hi Gil, Thanks for your reply to my e-mail. I have just started researching the Uptons'. John Elderson was married to Roberta Jane Upton on the 1st. March 1898 and they had a son John , born Oct. 19, 1898 in Liscard Reberta.s father was Robert Upton and I think his wife was Ellen. Thanks for your interest you never know somewhere along the line we may link up. Regards, John
John I am an Upton but no known connection with an Elderson. My Upton family (gg/gps and offspring) came over from Westmeath/Offaly in the mid-1880s. If this sounds at all interesting, let me know. Hello List, I feel Good today, I think I may have gotten help with my V.B.C.E Birkenhead. that is on my Grandfathers Attestation Papers. It has been suggested Royal Engineers, Welsh Division Cheshire Field Company.the address 79a Harrowby Road, Birkenhead. Now my next step , I would think my Grandfather would have been with this Volunteer Battalion between 1900 and 1909. as he was born in 1883 Birkenhead, and was here in Canada in 1910. (It says he served with them for three years ) Can anyone tell me any thing about this Battalion, could it have been with the Boer War ??Is they maybe somewere that has records ?? Does this 79a Harrowby Road still exist ??I ,m full of questions again. But Oh I feel Good. It seems I have been working on this for such a long time. If you feel you can help me Please do. It would truely be appreciated. Pat and Bill (/___/) (= ',' =) (")__(") pat0bill@telusplanet.net

Hi all from gorgeous Michigan (in the US of A) where the Northern Lights are at their very most spectacular!! Have never seen any so brilliant and so colorful! But back to genealogy. BIRKENHEAD is the name I am trying to track, and it seems to me that there just might be some long-ago connection between the BIRKENHEAD family and the city of the same name. Here is the scanty bit that I have been able to trace. "My" BIRKENHEAD connection was Bridget BIRKENHEAD, born about 1578 in Huxley, Cheshire or Chester, depending on the source. Her father appears to have been Henry (Dr. Henry?) BIRKENHEAD, also of Huxley, who married first Mary BOSTOCK/BOSTWICK, daughter of Hugh BOSTOCK or BOSTWICK, Esq of Huxley. No children there, but 8-10 of them from second marriage to Elizabeth BUNBURY, daughter of Margaret ALDERSEY and Henry BUNBURY, Esq of Stanney. Henry and Elizabeth's daughter, Bridget, married John CHETWODE, Esq, of Oakley. Oakley Hall in Oakley, Staffs, to be precise. I know that these people are not from Birkenhead, but I do wonder what connection there might be between this family and the city. Anyone have any speculations? Thanks. Nancy keithnancy@t-one.net
Hi Tom. My apology. The address should have read html at the end not htm sorry. On the site is a list of stays from Cheshire who was living around Romsbottom at the time of the 1891census. But only one DAVIES. My search for the name Bird is centred in the Wirral. Jack
Greetings, My great grandparents lived at 43, Bromborough Road, Bebington, before moving to Port Sunlight. Current computer locating maps show 43 and other odd numbers missing. which would indicate the houses on one side of the street were torn down to make way for somthing else. Can anyone tell me what happened to the houses and what is located there now? Just curious. Cheers and regards, John Farrall Burke, Virginia USA Researching: FARRALL BEBINGTON DAWSON WHITEHEAD

Hello All, My genealogy interest in Birkenhead include three families: ELLIS, STRATTON and McALPINE. Richard Ellis, who was a police inspector in Amlwch and Holyhead until c1865, arrived in Birkenhead in c 1870 with his wife Sarah and six children (Margaret, Thomas, John Samuel, William, Edward Rowland and Robert). Local directories record him as a Mail Contractor and Car Proprieter. John Samuel (my GGrandfather) and his family moved to Bootle before returning to the Clifton area of Birkenhead. I know nothing of the fortunes (or otherwise) of the other children. The Strattons came from Newtown in Hampshire. Henry owned a wringing machine dealership in Borough Road while his son George was Librarian at Birkenhead Library and Curator at the Williamson Art Gallery during the 1930's and 1940's. Robert William Stewart (Wilhelm Steinmetz) McAlpine came to Birkenhead from Belfast and was, at one time, agent in Liverpool for the Great Northern Railway (Ireland). He married Eliza Stratton and one of their daughters married a son of John Samuel Ellis. None of these people could be said to have changed the world but, like all ancestors, must have an interesting story to tell. I should be grateful for information to get me out of my present cul de sac from anyone who might have links with their family tree. Thank you, John Ellis
