I am looking for descendants of William Henry Dixon and Agnes Jane Leay (married 1876) of Poole Road Egremont, and Walmsley St. Liscard Their children were: Elizabeth Ellen 1877 Mary Agnes 1879 Louisa Maud 1880 Albert Edward 1882 - apparently died in Fiji Isabella Anne 1885 Emily Beatrice 1887 Rubina Jessie 1888 - migrated to Australia William Henry (born Wallasey 1854) was the son of George, (born 1804 in Broughton in Furness), Agnes Jane (born St. Helen's 1851) was the daughter Mary and William Leay. If anyone has any information I would appreciate it.
Can you point me in the right direction to hire a professional researcher for the period 1922 - present. Thank you Heather
My thanks to Louise,Cath., and Dot. for the information they have provided re. 5,Chester St.,Birkenhead, close to the River Mersey.Does the house still exist after at least 161 years? My g g g grandfather,Thomas Cox was a Master Mariner in 1841 and 1846 but there appears to be no record of him ever being a Captain or Ship's Master.Do you have any idea what other kind of Maritime career he might have been in?Ray.Jones,Ontario,Canada
Sorry Marge, That is the same problem we all have :-) better if you work backwards. Do you have the marriage certificate ? Does it say his father's name is John ? What are the witnesses names ? Maybe one of his siblings !? What about his birth certificate ? both of his parents will be on that. Oops - I have just had a thought - I think Hind Street was the gasworks. Chester Street still exists today and is near to Hamilton Square. Looking at Autoroute, it is the present A41 running from Woodside Ferry (across the Mersey) Terminal towards Chester, and seems to disappear into New Chester Road itself. Hello Ray Do you mean OLD Chester Road, or NEW Chester Road, or Chester STREET? I cannot remember a Chester Road in Birkenhead, other than those above. Chester Street, I think was occupied by the gasworks, and so had big gasometers. These could look like ponds on a map I should think. The Rover Mersey was very close to all of these roads.
