    3. Hello, Posting again for a look up in the 1891 or 1901 census for Owen Jones & Margaret Durning. Last know address in 1881 was 48 Dacre Street., Birkenhead. OR I have another address from Owen & Margaret's daughter's 1906 marriage certificate which says...>> Clifton Road Tettenhall. Your help would be very much appreciated. 3. Hi,Don`t know if this explains or helps but my late mother was born in 1906 and she never had a birth certificate,we have never found any registration of her birth at all in the st.caths index. When she reached pension age and they asked for Birth certificate,The only thing she could produce for them was her Baptism certificate,so she got by all her life with no Birth record.Maybe you should look for Baptism records if you know the area in which she was probably born, and check the records for the nearest church in that district.Hope this helps. Somebody educate me. I have a great grandfather, born c. 1852, great grandmother, born exactly 6 June 1850 (according to the Birkenhead News) and two great aunts, born c 1873 and 1883, who's birth records (date and place of birth) do not officially exist. That doesn't puzzle me as much as how someone could spent a 70 - 100 year lifespan and NOT have to record ones date and place of birth somewhere. Weren't there SOME documents, registrations (like school), rental papers, or other type documents where one must list their birthdates or where they were born? How was employment handled? Were there wages taxed? Did they register to vote - How? How did they obtain housing? Did they just come out of the woods and smile? I am looking for other options or venues to obtain birthdates. Any "out of the envelope" ideas? Maybe I am just too used to having to produce an identification document several times daily. I would appreciate any unique ideas or sugg! > estions. 2. Just a thought for new subscribers. You may not be aware that the 1909 information from the OS map I posted yesterday was the last installment. If you wish to look at the other postings I sent from this please search the archives of this list. The archives link is posted below in the tag line. Use the "Search archives" feature and just put Birkenhead 1909 into the search box and they should all come up. Caryl List admin

    2. Good morning Caryl. Your Street directory is very interesting.......... will you have an issue for the "ODD" numbered houses, especially for Beckwith Street, I believe my mother was born at number 13 Beckwith Street about 1900, the family name would be BRISCOE. Also, the ODD numbers for Watson Street (number 19), my grandmother would be about 20 at the time. Thanks much. Bryan Briscoe Smith. Colorado Springs. Colorado.

    3. Carl, I am wondering if you would have an Edith FAIRCLOUGH listed in your 1949 directory who died possibly in Birkenhead in 1949. I have a small card with her name on it and also a Mr. & Mrs. Harold JONES. It is dated 1930 and there is an address on it: 12 Iris Avenue, Birkenhead. If neither of these names is at that address, I am wondering what name is? If this directory has an alphabetical index of names would there also be a Ernest Richard FAIRCLOUGH & family? I am having a difficult time trying to track down any descendents of his family. Thanks for your help. 3. I have finally tracked down my great grandmother's 1871 Birkenhead birth certificate. I want to try to find her family in the 1871 census, but I don't know how. The family is living at 218 Brook Street in 1871. I know that I can obtain the 1871 census through my local FHC and that there is a version that is indexed by street adress, with a total of 5 microfilms. However, when I go to the film numbers, it just tells me which volumes are on which films, not which streets. Obviously, I'm missing a step here. Does anyone know how to find Brook Street in the 1871 census? Or, if someone has access and could do an 1871 census lookup, I would greatly appreciate it. The family would look like this: MURRAY David, head of household (I don't know his age or birthplace) Mary, wife, age ~39, b. Morgam, Welshpool, Wales Mary, daughter, age ~12. b. Newport, Monmouth, England Benjamin, son, age ~7, b. Chester, Birkhead Georgina, age ~6, b. Chester, Birkhead Louisa, infant, b. Chester, Birkhead Thank you! Lisa
