Hi To All, is anyone out there researching the name of POTTER? I really need to get a handle on the POTTER family who were born in Rock Ferry Chs, and moved to Liverpool, Lan. William POTTER was born in 1844 Liverpool Lancashire, he married Margaret ANDERSON in Wirral. At the time of the 1881 census they had 3 children who were all born in Rock Ferry. Frederick b 1874, Stuart b 1877 and Ethel b 1880. Regards from Anne in Australia. I use, support and recommend the Archive CD Books Project, and find them invaluable for genealogy research. Look them up on: http://www.archivecdbooks.org
My sincere thanks to Chris,Carl,Jan,Alan,Lesley,Caryl and the Kinsellas. There was a unanimous opinion that my g g grandfather,William Cox, was an employee of the Railway employed in construction of the railway, as opposed to operating trains. To pursue this further, William Cox was identified as an Engineer in the 1841 Census when he was 2-3 months short of his 19th. birthday. How would such a young man have become qualified as an Engineer in the late 1830's?Ray.Jones,Ontario
Listers, I want to thank all you responded to my query about Sycamore Road and Smethwich's Safest Milk. I was trying learn where a family member might have been in 1925 standing beside a horse drawn milk wagon and wearing a white apron. Based on the responses that I received, I was able to determine that Sycamore Road was located in the town of Smethwich near Birmingham. I had assumed it was a surname. I wrote the Smethwich Historical Society for information. They did not know of the parent company - Bray & Bailey, but were familiar with the milk. They asked if I could provide a copy of the photograph for their archives, which I obliged. Genealogy can work both ways! In this case, the local historical society was grateful to received the information that I had, instead of the other way around. They were very nice and friendly folks. The end result of this was that I also received additional help and information from the list members, who were instrumental in locating and validating a good number of lost family members. My cousin, for instance, was finally able to learn the names of her maternal great grandparents, from West Bromwich - north of Smethwich. Thanks again to all! Kind regards, John Farrall Burke, Virginia Researching: FARRALL, DAWSON, WHITEHEAD, ROBERTS, BEBINGTON and BRAITHWAITE

Anita, I live in Australia and am sure there are some ship lists on the web. It will be just a matter of finding them. If you can send me any relevant details ie Names, ages(DOB) arrival dates etc. I will have a look and see what I can find. Regards Dave Miller
Hi John , I got to thinking about this census and it does resemble the description of my carter family with the exception of one name Joseph Carter who went to Australia , any way I was wondering if you would do me a huge favor and see if you can find him and if you cant then just maybe this would narrow down a time frame of when he left for Australia of course as long as this is Roberts family of course . I am guessing that he would of been born Tranmere Like the others ? thank you a bunch !!!! for your help Anita ----- Original Message ----- From: Elisabeth Wegener Sent: Thursday, March 14, 2002 3:14 PM To: BIRKENHEAD-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [BKHD] Can somebody please!!! tell me how to start Yes, they are more or less next to each other. Please does any one have any information on the McClennan family in Birkenhead or in Liverpool Anne / Annie McClennan was my grandmother. ( She married James Dalziel) Her father was Patrick McClennan. He died aged 38 in 1890. Can't find the family on 1881 census Does he appear in any Directories? Thanks Dot
Many thanks to all of the NZ listers who responded to my mail. Think I have what I was looking for now Caryl List admin
Would SKS please look up the 1871 census for Birkenhead for one RICHARD DAVEY living at 19 Watson Street, Birkenhead......... who was living at that address with him........PLEASE Bryan .......in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
I can think of one possible explanation - that he worked on the Railways? Try this link - North Wales Railway History, it gives a good account of the dates of events in Railway History of North Wales and other areas. http://www.page27.co.uk/nwales/nwhist.htm The Irish Mail went to Holyhead for the first time in 1848 Crewe was and still is an important railway junction between North and South England. On a recent trip to my home town of Birkenhead, I spent a profitable hour in the library on Borough Rd looking at the 1901 census on microfiche. While I was there I saw a notice indicating that indexes to burials were available for a number of local cemeteries, including Flaybrick and Bebington. Unfortunately, I ran out of time before I could look at them. So, I was wondering if anyone who happens to be going to the Borough Rd library might be able to see if they can find a burial for Sarah Louisa BURTON (born 1848). I know she was alive in 1913 but is not in the same grave as her husband who died in 1937 (at age 94) and is buried in Bebington Cemetery. Given his age, it's probable that she predeceased him. Her father Josiah EASTMAN (b 1822) also lived in Birkenhead, at least at the time of the 1881 census, so she might be buried with him. I'm hoping she might be in Flaybrick or, perhaps, in a different grave from her husband, in Bebington. Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help. __________________________________________________________________ David N. I am on the Carter surname List but there is rarely anybody researching in England as early as I am they are in the united states way back to the 1600's I also was on the Cheshire list. Even if I did find another family member researching I don't have anything solid to go on to Identify them . they would be in England , Australia and or Possibly Canada the things I have tried are tracking 2 obituaries ordered his citizenship papers tracked down his naturalization papers in Iowa and interviewed surviving family members who had the opportunity of knowing him or has heard stories about him and I still dont know enough to find his family. He is not listed in the LDS files or in the Cheshire Marriage and Birth Index so I just don't know what to do next : ( I sure dont want to give up but dont know what to do .
