Searching for any details of Joseph Beswick born about 1862- date worked out from his gravestone. Born either Birkenhead or Liverpool. Have details of a Joseph Beswick born 1860 at Widnes Dock but now doubting that it is the correct one. My Joseph married Mary Corlett in 1885 Birkenhead. Can't find a likely candidate on the 1881 census. I think I've been following the wrong trail! Dot
In-Reply-To: <200203171100.g2HB0tu03910@lists2.rootsweb.com> There are others on traffic islands, but I have not come across any quite so round! (Former Boundary Road resident for whom this was the nearest church.) John Cordwell
Hello List, May I ask SKS if they should have a Directory for 1857/59 for Thomas FOGG, I have him as a stonemason, living at Poolton cum Seacombe in 1858. I would also like to ask here I have seen many times Poulton cum Seacombe. But what I have here is definitely Poolton was there both ?? Or is this a misprint ? Also can you explane what cum means ? I though it was a large building houseing many familys. But I see Gardeners Court Poulton cum Seacombe Victoria Road Poulton cum Seacombe Havelock Street Poulton cum Seacombe so is this like a district ? Pat and Bill pat0bill@telusplanet.net
If anyone is giving advice or helping out listers can they please do it on the list so that we can all benefit from their knowledge. Thanks Caryl List admin
I'm searching for a possible entry in a directory from1892-1935 for a Jabez Pendlebury, thought to have resided in the Tranmere/Birkenhead area. He was the son of James Albert Pendlebury & Margaret Stewart. Jabez married Jane Ellen McDowall. Thanks in anticipation Chris, Scotland
Hi Forgive me if it's not completely within the domain of this list but one of my ancestors who lived in Borough Road, Birkenhead in the 1890s had a photograph taken at G HIGGINSON Art Studio, 16 Nevill Street, Southport. Would it have been common at the time for people to have travelled so far away from home for a formal portrait ie. were there only very few such studios operating at that time? If anyone would like to take a look at the photo it is at http://www.eng-villages.co.uk/m_a_storey.html Kind regards Leigh Yeager
Has any lister had any experience in researching Birkenhead school records or Birkenhead/Liverpool Ferry employment records during the 1830 to 1840 period?Ray.Jones,Ontario

Hello Anita, Tranmere is part of Birkenhead Borough, Mollington, Saughall etc are about 15 miles away. Have a look at www.streetmaps.co.uk just type in Birkenhead. I am 99% certain that the family in the 1881 census is yours, Elizabeth is his 2nd wife and James Tilston is her son from her 1st marriage. All the other names fit. I,ve had a look for Joseph, I think this is him working on another farm. Hello Listers - I . I would like to download a blank copy of request for birth certificate as I have a reference obtained from LDS as party has not yet been added to the Cheshire BMD. 2. Will it be OK to mail our a request form if I am not sure of the exact reference number. The following are some examples: A. William Henry Glazebrook Sep Qtr 1870 8A 470 but the 4 is not clear, it might be something else. The 1881 census showed him born in Tranmere the LDS fiche shows registration as Birkenhead B. What about someone where I only have name and a date christened in St.Peters church in Liverpool and the father`s name. Would that be enough? C. Another instance what chance is there of getting a certificate if the LDS only show Batch numbers along with dates and names? Should they have other information that I need to get or is the batch numbers only in order to order their films? I`m sorry to be so dense about all this, I ordered a marriage certificate after downloading a copy and received it w/o any trouble, but in these instances the information is not on the system so I would like to have a site where I can get a blank copy. I believe someone wrote a while back that if I am ordering several certificates at the same time I should forward individual payments in case one or more are not available. Is that still a valid option? How do I know which of several Birkenhead locations I would mail to? or are they all now in the same Wirral location? Has anyone any experience with unsure data? Will they try to match up the right one with the type of info that I have? I`m half afraid to mail this out with so many questions, I apologise Cheers Joyce

Hello Listers - This lady was born 23 Nov 1891 christened as above on 9 Dec 1891. Her parents lived at 67 Dacre St. Birkenhead. Would SKS be able to look up the 1891 census for this address and this lady and her parents. She was the first born, so no other children but perhaps her grandmother Rebecca Jane after whom she was named would show at this address. Any information that could be provided would be much appreciated. Joyce
Does anyone have any information on this family. Jabez Pendlebury b. 1892. His parents were James Albert Pendlebury & Margaret Stewart. After the death of James Albert, Margaret moved to Tranmere from the Isle of man and married a Mr McEllroy or Mcilroy. Jabez had two brothers James and John, and a sister Mona. Any information would be appreciated. Chris
Hello all Listers - I have a few questions to pose. 1. Would anyone know if the banns book or register for Holy Trinity Church in Birkenhead survived? 2. If it did how and where would one be able to check on one marriage 18 May 1891 between Elizabeth Frances Glazebrooke and Richard Evans.? 3. Would it possible that SKS would be able to offer to do such a look-up? It is possible that there would be some information in the Banns book that is not recorded on the Marriage certificate. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Regards Joyce
