Emily Ethel Maude Edwards born aprrox 1860 ( no idea where ! ) daughter of a Provision Merchant John Edwards -Emily married 5th Sept 1885 at St Hilarys Church Wallasey to a James Harding Jackson -witness's to the marriage were Thomas William Jackson and Thomas Edwin Edwards . Emily and James only had the one child Reginald ( my grandfather) and he was born 6 months after they married ..... 1. [BKHD] [CHS] 1901 census E-petition
    2. Andrew Sutton
    3. I feel that this proposal is misguided and ill conceived. I have waited 6 years for this 1901 census information to become available, a couple more months is not going to make a great deal of difference. Web based technology is still in its infancy and consequently errors in judgement have been made, at least the project has not been abandoned which would have been the obvious and perhaps the most cost effective solution. I, for one, am grateful that the Government is placing this information on the Web. I can wait..... Andrew Sutton Cupar, Fife Researching the SUTTON families of the Wirral Hundred

    3. Back off and let them sort it out and not waste their time with this sort of nonsense. Gil Upton -----Original Message----- From: Linda Jones [mailto:linda@activeservice.co.uk] Sent: 27 March 2002 02:21 To: BIRKENHEAD-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BKHD] 1901 E-Petition Hello Listers It has been decided to set up an e-petition website to protest our case about the lack of availablity of the 1901 census. Offers to set this up have been made and the best time-scale so far has been within 24 hours of 22.00 hrs British Time 26th March. I'd hope we could get at least 20,000 signatures within a couple of days and send the petition by say Tuesday 2nd April. We'd have to 'advertise' the petition on various mailing lists to do that. I have also visited the Tracy Housel e-petition as an example of how to set-up an e-petition website (poor man only got 1137 signatures - but at least that got an appeal from the British Government) on www.petitiononline.com/tracyH/petition It has links to View Current Signatures and to Sign Petition. Since submission, the current signatures link has been disabled because of the SirCam virus - which makes sense - but perhaps a warning about virus' and advice as to how to download virus protection would come in handy. I'd suggest the following wording - all items in brackets are comments only and not to be included ......... 1901 CENSUS View current signatures (link).................... - Sign the Petition (link) TO : THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT Promises have been made by the British Government, via media sources and the Public Record Offices that the 1901 census would be available for public viewing online from 1st January 2002. It has been assumed that these promises have been made in conjuction with the proposed Freedom of Information Act (does anyone know if this is law yet? - or just proposed?). An attempt to fulfil these (this?) promise(s) has categorically failed due to incompetently researched high levels of demand. Nevertheless, the British and International Community have in the past, highly respected the promises of the British Government and would expect their promises to be fulfilled. More recent proposals have suggested access within limited demands, which we the undersigned do not believe to be full and proper implementation of the original promise. We the undersigned urge the British Government to comply in full with it's promise to allow access to the 1901 census, notwithstanding demand, as a matter of urgency. 3. >Greetings, listers all, > >I have recently seen several references to the above church. Can anyone tell >me the name of the church and what denonination it was, (or still is). > >TIA > The Parish Church of Birkenhead, St. Mary's, was built 1819-21, at the expense of Richard Price, then Lord of the Manor. On the 17th December, 1821, the church was consecraeted by the Bishop of Chester. The Chapelry or Township of Birkenhead was createc a parish in 1832. No Act has been considered necessary for building St. Mary's in 1821, as the incumbent was considered the legal succesor and representative of the old Priory (founded about 1150). The population of Birkenhead was growing rapidly at this time so, in the 1830s new transepts were added and soon after galleries were added to both transepts. It is, of course, a Church of England parish. Dave Burton

    3. Hello Su, Thomas YOUDS, the son of Maria and Thomas YOUDS, joiner of Irby is one of my YOUDS. I also have Stanley YOUDS and Mary CHATTERTON who married in Liverpool in 1823. I have them with 3 children: Ellen b 1823 Bidston, Catherine b 1833 Bidston and Thomas b 1835 Bidston. This family you have in the 1841 census may well be yours. I hope someone can look up the 1851 census for you to confirm this. I think we may have corresponded some time ago when I put you on to your mother's cousin in Australia. Am I correct? Let me know what you find out. Kind Regards from Anne in Australia. I use, support and recommend the Archive CD Books Project, and find them invaluable for genealogy research. Look them up on: http://www.archivecdbooks.org

    3. Hi Listers, I have recently received my copy of the 1851 census covering the Bidston area and have found who I believe to be myg.g.g.grandfather living at MARSH, BIDSTON (Not sure what the Marsh refers to) The entry is - STANLEY YOUDS widower age 53 Farm Labourer - Prenton JOHN YOUDS son age 24 Plasterer - Bidston MARY YOUDS daughter age 22 Servant at home - Bidston ANNE YOUDS daughter age 18 servant at home - Bidston THOMAS YOUDS son age 14 - Bidston CATHERINE YOUDS age 11 - Bidston (I think she is my g.g.grandmother) If anyone has access to the 1841 census I would really love to find out whether the family were listed in the Bidston area and whether this family includes the wife who I am hoping would be a MARY (nee CHATTERTON). I have received a copy of a birth certificate, which I was hoping was the THOMAS YOUDS listed above, but it is not. It might be of interest to someone though, and could even be linked to the above in some way. 10th September 1839 Irby THOMAS YOUDS Father THOMAS YOUDS, Mother MARIA YOUDS formerly SMITH. Father`s occupation Joiner. Registered 14th September 1839 Kindest regards, Su

    3. Hi Joan and Joyce, Funny you should say that, I have a Wyer/Morrin family that lived in no 38 Dacre Street but they are connected to Dillon's. One of these, Edith Kathleen Dillon, married a Powell.....making her Mrs. E. Powell, they all lived around this area....I estimate Edith was born late 1800's to early 1900's. Too much of a coincidence? 3. I wanted to say thanks to every one on the list who has been so kind to lend me a hand especially John Oliver who sent me the 1881 census with My carter family on it . I wasn't so quick to believe this was the right family because there were missing names from what my great grandfather had left behind on his brothers and sisters 3 boys were missing Samuel, Joseph, and William, Carter but I went to Roots web world connect with the census information and found his step brother James Tilston listed and he to had 3 other siblings who were younger then him not listed in the census . My question is, is this common for children to not be present in there home ? I did have one instance were my grt, grt, grt grandfather was bound out at the age of ten to the age of 21 on a farm. here in the U.S. did this happen in England to ? or was it a children overload and they lived with other family members John Carter's first marriage resulted in 5 Carter children Elizabeth's first marriage there were 4 Tilston children when they married they had 3 or 4 more . HOLY COW!!!!! my 3 children are enough to make me crazy sometimes . there were only 3 of us and my mother would call one of us and go through all 3 of are names before she got to the right one I could just imagine trying to get through all 14 names : ) so anyway hopefully the Tilston family will contact me and I can get the half sibling part done again thank you ....
