I am trying to establish the whereabouts of a family who lived in Birkenhead during the 1970's. Is there an on-line directory that anyone knows about. I would love to be able access it. SH
I have just started to work on Thomas Ivory, who appears in the 1881 census in Birkenhead (age 60, born Ireland, tailor). But so far I cannot find anything more. Nothing in the 70s and forward. So with him I am just looking for shortcuts. I have a full census record of Ann Waring born in Thurstaston in 1829 moved to Birkenhead by the early 1850s. and less complete data for some of her children. My interest now is in how she lived. It would seem very difficult for an unmarried woman with 6 children. This is a real puzzle for me. I don't know her death date. Johanna De Lonte (before the death of her husband Delahunty), Lantay in the 1901 census. I am interested in her parents (maiden name Kenney) who were born in Ireland. Where? I don't know her death date. Also where James Delahunty was born in Ireland - Waterford seems likely, Kilkenny seems possible. Finally Ann Warings father James and her grandfather James. Both from Heswall and perhaps Bebbington. Problem here is disentangling one from the other and from other James Warings. Fred Waring

I have a family of Jones living in the Birkenhead area in the late 1800s, and into the 1900s. They are Henry(Harry) Jones and wife Sarah Becket who married in Kirkdale, Liverpool in 1896. However at some point they moved into the Birkenhead area and possibly had the following children: Reggie, Mabel, Marjory, Harry, and Emma. I believe that Henry died in 1944 and was living at 52 West bank Rd, Devonshire Park, Prenton(?), Birkenhead. Would anyone on the list have any information about this family? I can offer a Canadian lookup in exchange for any information. Thank you Monica from Ottawa

Hey Sharyn, I have been trying (impossibly) to pursue things in Ireland and a lot of Farrels, including mine at some point, came from Ireland to Liverpool. In fact, in County Roscommon or Tyrone, Farrell is one of the most predominant names. I'm sure you've thought of this but just in case..... You've stolen our summer! Dot, There is a Francis Beswick living at 197 Price Street. He is 80 years old and is described as "Grandfather" to the Head of the Household, whose surname is almost illegible. His first name looks like Thomas. Sadly Thomas's wife's name is also very difficult to read. Given that Thomas is 54 years old it is difficult to see how Francis can be his grandfather but there you are. Am I looking at the right person? If I were to take a guess at the difficult-to-read surname of the Head of the Household, I would go for Francis. If you want, I can do a process of elimination for you to see what name he is recorded under on the index. From : [email protected] Subject : Cobden St, Tranmere. Wirral Date : 8th. Oct. 2004 Dear List, For some years, I've been trying to sort out the identify of the occupant living at 34, Cobden Street, Tranmere, Wirral, during 1900. According to information received, the 1900 Gore's Directory, shows the occupant as Henry Joseph C. PRICE, of whom, I later I discovered was by occupation, a Shipwright. Born in Wervin, Cheshire, and died in Birkenhead, in September, 1905. aged 76. From Library information obtained, I am informed that the 1901 census shows the occupant at 35, Cobden St. Tranmere, to have been a Henry John C. PRICE, a Postal Clerk age 35. born at Muchwenlock, Salop. And that, Henry Joseph PRICE, was the occupier of a dwelling at 50, George Street, Birkenhead, age 71, a Joiner. Hence, I then assumed Henry John, to have been the son, of Joseph. Until recently, when it occurred to me to search the 1881 census, for the birth of a Henry John, age 15, born in Muchwenlock, Salop. and could only find one Henry PRICE, age 15 a Scholar, birth place spelled "Wemlock" of whom, the census shows him to be the son of a John PRICE, a Railway Guard, living at 127, Beckwith St. Birkenhead, Cheshire. As no middle name is mentioned, I would be very grateful if SKS would please check the 1891 census for any further clues that may help to sort out this problem of identification. Any help would be most gratefully received. Kind regards to all. Ted.
