Thomas WILLIAMS and his wife Mary nee SPARKE lived in ZIG Zag Road, Wallasey in the 1930s. Thomas was probably born about 1860. He was the son of a Thomas who had died in Thingwall in 1891. Mary was born in 1862 and was the daughter of John SPARKE who farmed at Sandhay Farm, Thingwall and after whom Sparkes Lane in Thingwall is named. Thomas and Mary had 2 children, Charlie and Madge. Anyone have any information or connection? David Railton
Samuel PEERS married Hilda CLARKE at St Pauls Seacombe in 1920. Samuel was a watchmaker/repairer. At the time of his marriage he gave his address as 28, St Albans Road, Liscard and his father's name as Thomas. Samuel and Hilda had one child, Leslie who was born in 1923 when they were living at 12, Mosseybank Road, Egremont. Does anyone have any information about this PEERS family? David Railton

There will be no descendents now living in the area but I would be interested to hear from anyone who has any knowledge of the surname with this particular spelling in the Wirral/Merseyside area. The 1871 census shows Hannah BATTERSBY living at Tuscarora, Victoria Road, New Brighton. This would be Hannah Stelling BATTERSBY nee BAYLIS, widow of Richard BATTERSBY. Does anyone know anything about Hannah or her family? David Railton
I would be interested to hear from anyone with knowledge of this name in the north Wirral area in the 19th century. David Railton

Emlyn Hughes had played for Liverpool from 1967 to 1979. He had a great personality, and wicked sense of humour. There will be some tears tonight. There will be a minutes silence at the match on Wednesday. As the Liverpool List is out of action at the moment, I thought I would post this sad news on our Birkenhead List. Helen

Am I glad I do not have to rebuild this computer again. Thanks to all that replied I can get on with other things, computer related of course. Regards Andrew
Is it me or is there a problem? I have not received any mail from the Liverpool, Cheshire, Birkenhead or Wirral lists since late Friday afternoon. If the lists are functioning correctly and it is my system <again> could some one advise me off list at [email protected] Thank you Andrew www.andysutton.co.uk
Andrew - and all other listers Yes, Rootsweb are having a problem. This list isn't affected. Here is the e-mail all List admins had from Rootsweb: <<<Hi list administrators, The server LISTS5 is off-line with respect to sending and distributing mail, and it will be so **at least** for another couple of days. All other list servers are operating normally. How do you know if your list is on LIST2, LISTS3, LISTS5 or LISTS8? Go to your lists tools via http://lists.rootsweb.com/tools/LISTNAME Convert LISTNAME to your list's name. If the url changes to reflect LISTS2, LISTS3 or LISTS8, then it is not on LISTS5. If it still says LISTS or LISTS5, then it is on LISTS5 The basic story is that the server had had a hard disk problem earlier in the week, and when the disk was recovered by the system administrators, something else was broken and there followed a chain reaction that I was unable to stop until I got online later in the day. It will take a bit of cleaning up, nothing fatal just plain nuisance and time consuming. Brief information will be posted to the HelpDesk announcements zone, http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ for the information of list subscribers. As I am able, I will send messages to Listowners-L and for those not subscribed, you can see the messages in the list's archives http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/listowners As this mailing list is on LISTS, you will be unable to subscribe to the list for messages. If there is special information that you have to know about the repair operations, then these will be sent to you via this mailing list. For the moment, if there are any urgent questions or issues, please use the HelpDesk form http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi . Please don't mail me directly as I have a bit of work to keep me busy. Snippet from Wallasey News charter supplement Baptised by immersion in the sea was known as "the big dip baptism". Just over sixty men and women were baptised by immersion in the sea near Harrison drive. The date was September 5 1923. The ceremony was in connection with a Big Tent Mission conducted at Seacombe. A news report at the time stated that the females were attired in full length garments of black serge, with rubber caps and males in jackets and trousers of the same material The baptismal ceremony was performed in a channel near the edge of the sea. The officiating brethren wore black macintosh overalls. The candidates were led to them one by one and gently immersed. Caryl

According to my late Mum I too have relatives buried here. Is there a way of finding out if that is true and where they are buried? I have no idea but I vaguely remember visiting my grandfathers (Albert Edward CARTER) grave as a child 45 years ago. I think there was a headstone. I know his death date but I think my grandmother (Elizabeth Emily Carter nee Jones)is also buried there but I have no death date for her. Also is there anyway of knowing if there was a headstone?
