    3. Hello All, I don't think Landigan Cemetary was open on 1895, it would almost certainly be Flaybrick Cemetary at that time, the records are kept at Landigan Cemetary Office as well as the Town Hall Museum. 1. Re: [BKHD-Wirral] Liverpool Directories
    2. Hi Monica Yes, there are directories available for Liverpool for that time frame They can be viewed at record offices and libraries throughout the UK - but you will find more available at record offices and libraries in Liverpool, Wirral or Chester. I don't know of any on-line but I know that now and then people do transcribe extracts from them - lists of churches for 1902, from Gore's Directory, transcribed by Barbara Humphreys _http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/Liverpool/churches1902.html_ (http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/Liverpool/churches1902.html) You can also order copies of Liverpool and Lancashire directories on CD for very reasonable prices at: Archive CD books _www.rod-neep.co.uk/_ (http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/) Who are you looking for? some of our listers have them and might look it up for you Caryl List admin

(to include Kirkdale) If so where are they located and how does one access them? Would any of them be on the Net? Thanks a ton Monica from Ottawa

    2. Listers are invited to post a tribute to their Merseyside Military ancestors on this list and at the Merseyside Genealogy forum at: http://genchatfriends.proboards39.com/. Here is mine: This is a tribute to: My father Norman MATTHEWS from Birkenhead who was a Royal Marine in WW2 1939-45. He was a HO Volunteer aged 19. He was a gunner with MNBDO1 and served in Egypt, Ceylon, Crete, France and Burma. He never talked about the war except to say that they had to escape over the mountains in Crete. His hair turned white when he was 21. He caught malaria in Ceylon and for the rest of his life he always felt the cold My great uncle Thomas P CARNEY originally from Dublin but lived in Liverpool and later Hull. He was a drummer boy in the Boer war and was awarded the DCM. He was a CSM in WW1 in the 2nd East Yorks and was awarded another DCM and the MSM. His brother Sgt John CARNEY was also awarded the DCM in WW1 and also served with the 2nd East Yorks. He died in 1918 after contracting TB in the trenches, he was 36 and is buried in Litherland cemetery Liverpool "we will remember them" Caryl List admin

I have a great deal of information on these people but I had not found the 1871 census entry. The surname of Edith is very interesting, if this is the Edith who was supposed to be Isabella's daughter. I see that there was a birth of an Edith Scott in the March quarter of 1871 in West Derby. All of this family are very interesting people as are all their relations. In 1875 Edith's aunt, Clara Baylis, married Edmund Alleyne Cook, a surgeon. Edith took on the name Alleyne and from then on was known as Edith Alleyne Sinnotte. She emigrated to Australia with her mother and brother and did not marry until she was 59 years old. Edith Alleyne SINNOTTE had become an early student and accomplished practitioner of the Esperanto language. In 1918 she published a novel titled "Lilio" written entirely in Esperanto. Her novel is mentioned in "Historio de Esperanto" [1964] as a landmark in the history of the language. The name Alleyne was obviously of great significance to the family. 3. I have just heard the very sad news that Emlyn Hughes has died aged 57 years, having suffered from a brain tumour. Emlyn Hughes had played for Liverpool from 1967 to 1979. He had a great personality, and wicked sense of humour. There will be some tears tonight. There will be a minutes silence at the match on Wednesday. As the Liverpool List is out of action at the moment, I thought I would post this sad news on our Birkenhead List. Helen
