    1. WOOLRIDGE & MULCASTER
    2. Ruth Croft
    3. WOOLRIDGE and MULCASTER. Does anyone have either of these names in their trees? My Grandmother's birth record in 1888 states her mother as Margaret WAINBERG, formerly WOOLRIDGE - but no Papa named... Very puzzling. I think I've found her in the 1901 census as 'Cousin' age 13, living with Alfred & Annie MULCASTER at 27 Fairfield Road, Birkenhead - with the surname Donohue - don't ask! I knew her until I was 16, and I still don't know the answers... Regards, Ruth in Brum.

    2. Jen Bernatek
    3. Hello Kathryn If you are looking for your Hozacks in the 1871 census and they lived in Denbigh Street you will not find them! My gt gt grandfather lived in Denbigh Street around that time and the whole enumeration district is missing from the 1871 census. I had this from an enquiry to the National Archives when I couldn't find my family on the 1871 census:- "Thank you for your enquiry. There is as you say an entire evaluation district [number 6] missing from the fiche of the 1871 census for Birkenhead. I have now checked the original documents RG 10/3744 and RG 10/3745 and this district is also missing from them. Both documents have sustained damage. The guidance for enumerators and covering page giving the enumeration district number are missing from the front of RG 10/3745 but otherwise the schedules are in good condition, it looks as if this document always began with district 7. The schedules at the back of RG 10/3744 are in a worse state. The missing district was lost, I suspect, from here, long before the filming and probably before the document came to The National Archives. I am sorry I am not able to give a more positive reply." However I then e-mailed the Birkenhead library at: birkenhead.ref@wirral-library.net They very kindly offered to look up my family on the 1871 electoral roll which confirmed them at 1 Denbigh Street so at least I could place them there although only the head of the household was mentioned. If you e-mail them your Hozack name they can look for you. Looks like our ancestors may have been neighbours, my gt gt grandfather, Michael McCormick died in 1873 at number 11 Denbigh Street! Hope this helps. 2. I appreciate the time spent on Joseph Hozack, thankyou. The thought has accured to me that it may be that Joseph was not in the country on census night as he was a dock labourer and I have a feeling that he also worked on ships as a Stoker. I wonder if a look for Margaret Hozack would be more fruitful. She is the one that is recorded on the 1864 birth certificate at 1 Back Pilgrim Street, and then again in 1870 at 13 Denbigh Street. I have also realized that Margarets son was Joseph Hozack b. 1855 in Ireland. It may be that the family could be traced through him. Hopefully he will be with his mother Margaret somewhere in Birkenhead. Thankyou, Kathryn

    2. I need some help trying to locate some folks in the Birkenhead area. This is a looong shot, but maybe someone in the Birkenhead area can help me. Walter Reginald TYLER was born in 1922 and died in 1998 at "Arrowe Park Hospital, Birkenhead, Wirral, Cheshire." In 1942, he married Agnes LEYLAND in Bidston. They had one son and one daughter. This information came to me just this week, so I suspect that Agnes might still be living as the data does not indicate she is deceased. Walter and I would be 3C. In the early 1900s, there was regular correspondence between the families in Birkenhead and in Minnesota (USA), but that was lost and I want to reconnect. Can anyone help me find Agnes (if she is still living)? Jon Raymond St. Paul Park, MN, USA http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~raymond
