Thanks Wendy, That's certainly the right name and the right location - so I'm sure there must be some connection! I'll get digging through and see what I can match up and let you know what I come across. It's a bit tricky for me at the moment as I'm living out in Bermuda at the mo - so relying on my parents back in the Wirral to help dig out info locally - but we'll get there in the end! Many thanks again, Susan On 3/15/06, JJWENDY@aol.com <JJWENDY@aol.com> wrote: > > Hi, > I have YOUDS in my tree but I dont think they are from the same branch,I > have these MUTCH in my tree > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > ------------- > Barbara Mutch (1834-1909) Greasby- M- James Stanley in 1856 > Benjamin Mutch (her father but no other details) > ------------------------- > Thomas Mutch (1845)-M-Elizabeth Nelson(1847)their children were > Jane c1868 > George c1870 > William Nelson (1872) he married Clara Parr on 10th Oct 1898 > Mary c1875 > Elizabeth c1877 > Thomas c1879 > Emma c March 1881 > ------------------------------------------ > John Mutch born in Moreton year not known but died c1840 he married > Hannah > Williams of Moreton Cheshire in 1780,their children were > Jane (1790) she married twice 1) John Oxton 2)John Halewood > William Nov 1795 Bidston, wife not know but he had a son called John b > c1828 > Robert(aka John Robert)(1798-1858)-M-Hannah Jordan(1802) around > 1825.Their > children were > John H (march 1826 Parish of Bidston) died 1886 Cootamundra,NSW,Australia > he > married Ellen Davies(c1834 Parish of Bidston) in 1855 > Thomas (1827-1859 Bidston) -M- Elizabeth Rowlands, their children were > Thomas(above married to Elizabeth Nelson) > John (1860)married to Sarah ? son called John (no date) > Al the best, wendy > > > ==== BIRKENHEAD Mailing List ==== > Our list Web site with links useful for Wirral genealogy > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~liverpool/BIRKENHEAD-WIRRAL.html > > ============================== > Search Family and Local Histories for stories about your family and the > areas they lived. Would anyone be able to tell me the first name of the last miller at Bidston Mill? I believe he was a Mr. Youds, and I believe his daughter is my great great grandmother. From what we know so far, it looks like her name was Mary (b. 1829 approx), who married a Thomas Mutch (b. 1825 approx in Lower Meols/West Kirby area). They in turn had at least 7 children that I know of born in either Bidston or Oxton: John, Thomas, William, Mary, Joseph (my g grandfather), Elizabeth and Jane. Although I have not found a marriage certificate yet to confirm that Mary, the spouse of Thomas Mutch, is actually a YOUDS, anecdotal evidence from now deceased relatives has her as a YOUDS and the daughter of the miller at Bidston Mill, the last of which I've also confirmed to be a YOUDS - so it definitely appears that there's a connection somewhere down the line. As there are a couple of different YOUDS branches on the census, I'd be really grateful if anyone knew the millers first name so I could try and narrow my search down further. Also, if anyone has any details on the MUTCH side I would also love to hear. Many thanks, Susan Mutch

Thanks for the different links, the 'History ' was interesting A factor which also played a part in the demise of the Landing Stage were the very low tides which followed, duly increasing the stresses on it. suzanne
Have enjoyed looking through the records on the Old Bailey web site. Incase any one else wants to have a look, you can find it at www.oldbaileyonline.org You never know where relatives might be found!
Thanks Caryl and everyone else for all the information on the dock as I may never have heard of it. It was really interesting seeing all the photographs. Best wishes, Dorothy, Calgary, Canada
Makes you wonder as there is talk now of moving the ferries berth to make way for the Liners ( It never rains but it pours or is that one mans meat is another mans poison) Cheers George Babs <barbarbarann@tesco.net> wrote: Twas damaged in a storm, but you do wonder, did it fall or was it pushed... ....... -------Original Message------- From: Dorothy Spence Date: 03/14/06 16:32:42 To: BIRKENHEAD-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BKHD-Wirral] Liverpool Landing stage sinks: View from Birkenhead Hi Caryl, What happened to the landing stage? A combination of high tide and stormy weather. Luckily it happened overnight so no-one seriously hurt or killed Members of the inshore rescue had to be evacuated and I understand they lost vital expensive equipment The ferries from Birkenhead are having to dock at the Isle of Man berth for now Took a few more from Woodside on that day The Ferry Daffodil just arrived at Woodside _http://www.old-liverpool.co.uk/Daffodil.jpg_ (http://www.old-liverpool.co.uk/Daffodil.jpg) and just sailing away _http://www.old-liverpool.co.uk/Daffodil2.jpg_ (http://www.old-liverpool.co.uk/Daffodil2.jpg) Caryl In a message dated 14/03/2006 17:44:07 GMT Standard Time, barbarbarann@tesco.net writes: Hi Caryl, What happened to the landing stage? From: ed_thomas@wxc.net.nz Subject: Joseph H.PRICE / COLDSTREAM GUARDS Date; 14th.March, 2006 Joseph H. PRICE / Coldstream Guard. Dear List, I have done much research on the Cheshire, and Lancashire PRICE families.of Wervin, Stoak and Little Stanney, in Cheshire, being the areas where many of the PRICE, family members were born and lived, starting with Edward PRICE, born c1782. Until several of the family members moved to Haslingden, Rawtenstall and Middleton, in Manchester, Lancashire. Joseph H. PRICE, was born in Middleton, in 1860.at Beattie Farm. I have no date as to when he enlisted with the Coldstream Guards. The last information I have of him appears in the 1901 census which list him in a Lodging House, at 9, Front Mill Gate, Rawtenstall, Lancashire, Single and working as a Mason's labourer. I would be very grateful if someone could please, help me with any information as to Joseph's, whereabouts and occupation after 1901. I have purchased several possible Marriage and Death certificates but, draw blanks One of the last members of the family was Henry Joseph PRICE, who died in Birkenhead,1905. aged 76. of whom, the above Joseph, was a Nephew. Kind regards, TIA Ted.

Hi All Has anyone come across the name William Kerr a Saddler at Westminster Buildings, Chester St in 1853. Sounds like it was more than one building. He was my g g grandfather. I found an account in The Times of another accident at the works but much later, in 1901. Still, there may be info in there that might help. The company was successfully prosecuted by the factory inspector. I will send the cutting off list. Newspapers of the time would probably have more details than the actual inquest report. I had a family suicide in 1891 that had an extensive article in the Birkenhead News. Another local relative obtained it for me - I assume she got it at the local library. ----- Original Message ----- From: "dot rochard" <dot@drochard.fsnet.co.uk> To: <BIRKENHEAD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 11, 2006 4:54 AM Subject: [BKHD-Wirral] Inquest Details MILLER > Please could someone advise me how to find details about an inquest held in1877 for a Luke Miller killed in a fall at the Brittania Works in Birkenhead > Thanks > Dot > > > ==== BIRKENHEAD Mailing List ==== > Our list Web site with links useful for Wirral genealogy > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~liverpool/BIRKENHEAD-WIRRAL.html > > ============================== > Jumpstart your genealogy with OneWorldTree. Please could someone advise me how to find details about an inquest held in1877 for a Luke Miller killed in a fall at the Brittania Works in Birkenhead Thanks Dot
Could anyone tell me details of the Brittania / Britania Works in Birkenhead please Dot
Bob Many many thanks for the info. This is indeed the record I was looking for. "Susan Christie Duncan Walker" was my aunt's friend but I didn't know her full name or address before. Also to now have a date is useful for looking up newspaper reports. Not being in March or May could help in that respect. The name of the Dodd's was also new for me. I don't know about number 6. I could check that one out I guess. Number 23 was flattened and eventually rebuilt. My aunt returned to 21 several years later after extensive repairs. Thanks once again. Doug Robert Tennant <birkenheadtram@tiscali.co.uk> wrote: Doug, I think I have found your Aunty Christine, however, as in most cases when trying to research something which took place whilst people were under pressure there are conflicting reports. Here though is my search results on the reported deaths of three people in Clive Road Oxton on the night of 9th January 1941. No. 23 Clive Road, Fredrick John Dodd aged 63 was killed with his daughter, Freda Dodd aged 16. Susan Christie Duncan Walker aged 50 was killed at No. 21 Clive Road, but is listed as living at 160 Grange Road West, which is in easy walking distance of Clive road. Is this your Aunty? A very good publication called Birkenhead at War 1939 - 1945 refers to people being killed at No. 6 Clive Road but I consider that to be a mistake as only the above persons are listed as being killed at No.21/3 and this confirms your information Bob T. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Doug" To: Sent: Wednesday, March 08, 2006 10:32 AM Subject: [BKHD-Wirral] The Blitz > Many thanks to everyone who has taken the trouble to reply to my posting > regarding the Blitz in Birkenhead. > > Wendy- the Port Cities site you pointed me to was very interesting and > well illustrated.
