Vera Herald Citizen:Mary Effie Brown COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for Mary Effie Brown, 80, of Cookeville, will be held today, Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. at Willow Avenue Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6 p.m. until time of services at Willow Avenue Church of Christ. Mrs. Brown died on Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born on March 28, 1921, in Jackson County to the late James Franklin and Lillie Lee Birdwell Haile. She was a member of Willow Avenue Church of Christ and was retired from the Chrysler Corporation. Her family includes her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Denny Landis of Cookeville; a sister, Ruth Coomer of Cookeville; two grandchildren, Terry Thornton of Westland, Mich., and Chuck Thornton of Pinckney, Mich.; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Frazier Brown, and two daughters, Robbie June Thornton and Shelby Jean LaVigne. Memorial contributions may be made to Willow Avenue Church of Christ or to the Cookeville-Putnam County Humane Society by contacting the funeral home. Bro. Ken Burton and Harvey Neufeldt will officiate at the services. Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
