Seeking the roots of Mary Birdwell Chester, born in Virginia about 1767 (from 1850 federal census). Her husband was John Chester who served in the Revolutionary War as a quartermaster sergeant in the 6th Penn regiment, commanded by Col Josiah Harmer from 1777 to 1781. Their family Bible records their wedding date as 21 Mar 1786. They had ten children and lived & farmed in Sullivan County, TN. She passed away there 17 Oct 1752. John Chester passed away prior to her on 4 Jan 1841. I noted with great interest Rose Birdwell's posting to the list and interesting web site showing images of early documents of John Calhoun Birdwell in VA in 1743 -- and wonder if he perhaps was a relative. Perhaps after the Rev. War there was an influx of VA Birdwells to Sullivan County, TN. Since this is a newly discovered portion of my family tree, I recently joined this listserver and have just lurked until now. I'm not as well versed in Birdwell genealogy as some of the other surnames I research. Does anyone know the parents, siblings, background, etc of this Mary Birdwell? As a descendent of John and Mary Birdwell Chester I hope to find out more about her. Donna Proffitt Edgar (researching PROFFITT, CHESTER, BIRDWELL, MASON, SKINNER, LEWIS, MENZ)
