The French and Indian War was taking place during the awarding of the following military commissions. These were militia appointments in Fauquier Co. The year 1759 saw a number of appointments. On May 24th, Joseph Blackwell was designated Sheriff and Esq. Henry Churchill was appointed County Lieutenant. William Blackwell was appointed Col. and William Eustace was appointed Maj. on Aug. 23rd. September 27th the appointments were Col. John Bell and his Captains Elias Edmonds, William Wright, Armistead Churchill, John James, Augustine Jennings, Thomas McClanahan and Robert Ashby.
