    3. First land owners of Sullivan county, Tennessee (1) Compiled and published by: Mrs.John Vineyard 1974 Introduction: When the court house at Blountville became a casualty of the Civil War, the destruction blasted the hopes of searchers accustomed to tidy sulutions by use of marriage records and of those dealing with estates. In Sullivan county, the only sizeable body of records remaining is the deeds. This compliation is an effort to bring to attention to land owners and those items in the deeds that should further our knowledge of the early settlers of this important county. Only an index to the grantee deeds was planned, but it was soon realized that the wills, family relationships, etc. revealed in the dees themselves are proof of the pudding and so, could not be ignored.
