    3. Has anyone on the list ever heard this story? If so who was this Birdwell? This story was sent to me years ago and I had forgotten about it, I found it today while I was cleaning out some files. "My Granny told me a story about a Birdwell that was hung for murder right after the Civil War. That while this Birdwell was off fighting, some soldiers (I think Yankee) came by his home and killed his wife and daughter. When the war was over and he had returned home, some of the returning soldiers stopped by his house for a drink of water. He was chopping wood at the time, he and the soldiers got to talking about some of the awful things they had seen and done during the war and one of them told him about killing a couple of women in that area. The Birdwell knew it was his wife and daughter he was talking about. He chopped him in the head with the axe. The soldiers had taken his daughter, she was pregnant, and cut her open and hung her and the baby like they were cleaning hogs." Linda Old Genealogists Never Die they just lose their Census
