Now ,,, he throws in another name that rings a bell - HODGES ... dang, now, his aunt is related to my wife !!! If Howell and I ever meet, it will be interesting to see which of us sticks the ice cream cone in our ear first before we eat it. All this inbreeding makes me nervous ... 3. >Jerry, do you know who the Birdwell's were in the Montgomery Co. >schools that you posted. > If you don't know, does anyone else out there know? Rose - I don't have a clue who they were ... I used to work with a Don Birdwell at Price Waterhouse & Co. back in my younger CPA life ... He NEVER would tell me who his family was and all he would say is - "they were from Clarksville" .... My guess is, this is a project for Howell ... If I can take an educated guess ,,, they were the branch of the BIRDWELLs that did not know how to read a road map and could not find Arkansas or Texas or Missouri ,, and got lost after leaving Jackson County back in '02 ... Sorry, couldn't resist that (wink) Jerry

    3. Hey Gang, I have added the 1790 Conn. Census, from ancestry.com. I've also lightened up the pension records, so they are now printable. If you want to download any of these images (or any image on BT), when you get the large image, go up to File, then to Save As, give the image a name, then up to My Documents, then Save. To get it into your Family Tree Maker, open your database, then to the person where you want the picture saved, then open your scrapbook, go to Picture/Object, then to Insert Picture from File, then to Look In. Most of the time, you will see My Documents in that box, if you don't, you will see a list of names, choose Windows, then My Documents, click on it, pick out the file name of the image, then OK. In just a few seconds, you'll get your image in your scrapbook. Hope this helps. 1. Davidson Co, TN
    2. Jerry Anderson asked about these Davidson Co, Tennessee marriages. Here is what I have in the files. If anyone has corrections or alternate answers I would appreciate it if you would post them. Birdwell, Alice to Joseph House ... 5 Jan 1807 As far as I know, this Alice has not been positively identified. One possibility is that she could be a daughter of George Birdwell (1760-1816) and she had died before George wrote his will in 1816. Birdwell, Hugh to Lydia McKay ... 12 Mar 1813 Hugh was named as a son in the 1816 will of George Birdwell (1760-1816). Hugh was born about 1786 and died before 1840. I have a fair amount on most of his kids. Birdwell, Isiah to Susan Pate ...13 Aug 1816 "Isaac" was named as a son in the 1816 will of George Birdwell (1760-1816). Isaac was born about 1788 and died about 1841. His spouse was named "Susannah PAGE" rather than "Pate". I have a fair amount on most of their kids. Birdwell, Polly to William Neely ... 22 Feb 1820 "Polly" was named as a daughter in the 1816 will of George Birdwell (1760-1816). Since there were soooo many Mary Birdwells it is possible that this "Polly" could be someone other than George's daughter. Yet it is probably George's girl who was born about 1798 since George's widow and children were all still living around Davidson Co. in 1820. I have nothing further on Polly. Birdwell, John W. to Eliz Harris ... 6 Oct 1847 This John W. Birdwell appears to be the son of the elder John Birdwell (c1775-c1834) of Giles Co, Tennessee. His brothers Thomas Gaines (c1804) and William (1808) both ended up in Texas. This John W. of Davidson Co. apparently went to Texas for awhile himself and had some business ventures with his brothers. William's daughter-in-law, Annabel Green Birdwell, also mentioned this John and his family as her husband's uncle. Census data gives conflicting dates on John W.'s year of birth but it appears that he was probably born about 1815. Again, I'd welcome any corrections or comments on these notes. I hope this information helps some of you. Weldon J. Birdwell

    1. Civil War Ceremony
    2. Jerry Anderson
    3. This was in the TENNESSEAN last Wednesday (26 Sep 2000) I attended the ceremony today - it was something new for me. I've never been one who spent much time rehashing or even studying the War Between The States, even though I live just a couple of miles from the Stones River National Battlefield. I found out today that the Doctor who accompanied John J. back to Jackson County treated him for 40 days, and John almost gave up the ghost !! And, gulp, this was before he ever married Mariah and they had William Henry ... I also spent some time at the Pleasant Grove cemetery where Elizabeth Chaffin Birdwell and her son James Marion Birdwell (as well as Marion's wife Canzada and one or two of their children) are buried. Anyway, here is the article: (Walnut Grove is just across the Robertson Co. line into Sumner Co.) Jerry SUMNER COUNTY Descendants to honor Confederate veteran WALNUT GROVE -- The Birdwell family will have a reunion of historic proportions Saturday at Walnut Grove Methodist Church. The family will honor ancestor John J. Birdwell, who is buried in the cemetery there, a Confederate veteran who was badly wounded at the Battle of Stones River near Murfreesboro in 1863. A unit of re-enactors in period dress from the John Hunt Morgan Chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, along with an accompanying ladies' group also dressed in period attire, is scheduled to attend. "Six or seven of the direct line will be represented, and into the eighth generation of him," said Helen Baggett of Greenbrier, one of John Birdwell's great-grandchildren. She is organizing the reunion. Birdwell, who grew up in Gainesboro, Tenn., was 20 when a Minie ball went through his hip at Stones River on Dec. 31, 1863. His recovery took a long time, Baggett said, but he lived a long life, dying in 1915. His family moved from East Tennessee to Sumner County in 1890.

    1. Change in the weather
    2. Hello folks: Just thought I’d send you all a silly note. Many of you will wonder why, although I know at least a few of you will welcome news of a ‘change in the weather’ ... This past summer was a hot one. Most of us had our fill of the heat wave a month, or two, before it finally broke. For those of you who can relate to those feelings (think: Texas where it was even Hotter) you may be pleased to hear that here in Billings we now have about four inches of snow on the ground and much more in the mountains. Around here everyone was tired of the prolonged extreme temperatures and lack of moisture (think: forest fires). I don’t think anybody was wishing for an early snow storm in September. Yet this wet, heavy snow seems to finally put a cap on the rather brutal summer of 2000. Here is wishing for a pleasant and wet autumn & winter followed by a more normal summer next year. Best Wishes, Weldon J. Birdwell
