Thank you Effie, for this info. And yes, would you please see if you can dig up the paperwork. I read somewhere that he supplied cattle and hogs to the troops. Does anyone have anything about that? Ihave traced my Uncle by marriages BIRDWELL line to Clinton Co.,Ky. They are on the 1860 census. From the death certificates of John Birdwell, I find that he is the son of son of Joshua Birdwell and Sally Hare, and wife Myra, is the daughter of William Brummett and Minerva Thornhill. From the 1860 census I have run into a brick wall, but the posting about Old George sounds promising. John BIRDWELL and family, plus brother and sisters settled in Creelsboro,Russell Co by 1910. Any help on this is appreciated. Sharon
So does anybody know what civil service George Birdwell performed during the Revolution? Perhaps supplied arms or supplies to soldiers? Have any female descendants sought DAR membership on this line? Unless I'm mistaken, descent from anyone in the patriot index (whether soldier or civil servant) is acceptable for membership. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Betty Bray" <bybray@multipro.com> To: "Rose Birdwell" <birdwell@tri-county.main.nc.us> Sent: Wednesday, May 31, 2000 10:36 PM Subject: Re: OLD GEORGE DAR Patriot Index, Volume 1, Page 260: Birdwell; Burdwell George: b. ca. 1720-30, d. 11-24-1781 Va., m. Betty: Thanks for sharing the DAR data with us. Do you have a suggestion for what George's "Civil Service" might have been ? It seems like an unusual designation for an inclusion with the DAR. Thanks again. Weldon J Birdwell
