    3. I just found out that on Sep 30, there will be a memorial service and unveiling of a Civil War marker for John J .... The service will be at the Walnut Grove Cemetery just outside White House, Tenn (about 30 minutes north of Nashville) - to be followed by a BIRDWELL reunion in White House ... I understand a nearby chapter of the Sons of The Confederacy will perform the ceremony complete with period costumes for the men and women etc .... All are invited. This has actually got me excited about getting back to my research. Weldon, now who is this Margaret McKaughan again ??? (wink) ARGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH !!!! Jerry

    3. Once again I wrote too fast and hit "send" before double checking. The farm where Euclid Rains lived was not owned by John Birdwell but John Findley (after the Indians), then sold to John Findley's niece Jane Dowdy Isbell and her husband Elijah Miller Isbell (1840-1920), who was a son of Rev. Levi Isbell b. 1797 and his wife Sarah H. Birdwell, daughter of John Birdwell & Mary Allen. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. 3. Hey Gang, I received this from Gail Stephens. Does anyone have a death date for Margaret Campbell, apparently the first wife of Benjamin, Jr. Any theories?? Thank bunches........Rose From: Gail Stephens <GSTEPHENS@SC.RR.COM> To: <birdwell@tri-county.main.nc.us> Sent: Sunday, August 27, 2000 12:04 PM Subject: Daniel Wexler Birdwell Attached is a transcription of the Birdwell family genealogy found in my parents' family bible (Fred Vincent Birdwell/Hazel Clemence Baxter). I thought the source of this information was Cecil Lynn Birdwell (my uncle), but since it includes his date of death, that is probably not true. It may be that my father took information from his brother or his father and typed the pages I found. I have not verified any of this information as I am just getting started on tracing my family roots. It appears that Benjamin Franklin Birdwell may have had two wives. Your information shows Lydia Campbell who married Benjamin Franklin in 1831. My information shows Lydia Duncan who was married to Benjamin Franklin in 1841. It may be that all the children you have listed as those of Lydia Campbell are actually the children of Lydia Duncan since they were all born after 1841. Do you have any information that would dispute this theory? Gail Birdwell Stephens GENEALOGY OF BIRDWELL FAMILY SPRINGING FROM THAT OF BENJAMIN BIRDWELL, SR. Thanks, Peg James - I think George Washington Birdwell is the younger brother of the other Joseph Birdwell (born abt 1803) found in Jackson County and the above Elizabeth was their sister ... This is the mysterious BIRDWELL line - father was a Joseph and mother was a Margaret McKaughan ... There is some letter in the files where some old man aroung 1890 something that claims to be the son of a woman whose sister was Margaret McKaughan who married a Joseph Birdwell ... Just when we thought we had everybody surrounded - up pops this letter - The web site where the letter was posted, sadly is no longer available and I did not make a copy of it ... Birdwell ....

    3. A couple of points ... (A) I don't think William, son of old George, was married to a "Rachel" ... I don't think his wife's name was Rachel at all - that is a different woman - Weldon and I have discussed this several times and believe William was married to Elizabeth "Betsy" Lafever ..... (B) So far, my research shows their children as below - please understand, a lot of my research has been via a process of *WHO* could not or probably was not, their children - The mix of BIRDWELLs that kept moving between KY and TN in the Jackson County area does not make it easy - and they all had the same names, as you know. Children of Wm and Betsy Lafever Birdwell: 1. Jane "Jennie" (not "Windy" or "Wendy") who md William Fox - they had about 12 children ... 2. Joseph who married Elizabeth Chaffin - they had at least 12 children .... 3. Melvina who married Henderson Brown and had 7 children before she died at the early age about 30. 4. Serena - not sure , but possibly a daughter - could have married a PATE ... 5. John Harvey who married Martha Chaffin and had abt 11 children 6. Mary Ann who married Johnson Spurlock and had about 9 children Jerry

    2. Hi Everyone, I am trying to help Willard Birdwell find his ancestors. His grandfather was Thomas J. Birdwell from Nacogdoches. He was married to Luvina. I sent Willard the family group sheet of Robert Randolph Birdwell that uses information from Jerry Birdwell . Willard wrote me back saying that his great grandparents were George Birdwell and Cassandra Blackburn according to the marriage record in Nacogdoches Court House. This doesn't match what I have. Does anyone have any information on this family? Thanks

    3. Hey Gang, I've started working on William 1772 (by overwhelming demand). All of you that are related to this family, please check daily on what i've put in there, in case there are any mistakes, I'll be able to get them straightened out right away. As you all know, this is a very hard family to do, since it is so intermingled with relatively very few families. And I've had lots of trouble with my email this last week, so if you find errors, and you don't hear from me in a few hours, please try again. Also, I would like to put your names and email addresses on BT, and your family lines, on the Articles page, but will only do it for those who consent. For all that are in favor, please send me your name and email add., and your family line, and i'll copy and paste it on there, just as you have written it. 3. Hey Gang, I got this in my guestbook today. Does anyone have any help for Gail? And Gail, could you send me your corrections, and I will add them to BT. Can you send me that short genealogy that your Uncle wrote, so that I can add that, too? Thanks, everyone. Rose Name : Gail Stephens Your E-mail Address : gbstephens@aol.com Comments : Great job! Keep up the good work! There are a couple of places where my information differs from what you have. My uncle (Cecil Birdwell) put together a short genealogy sometime in the early 70s. His older brother, Fred (not Ned) was my father. Their father was Daniel Wexler Birdwell, his father Benjamin Franklin Birdwell, and his father Benjamin, Jr. The document I have says Benjamin, Jr. was married to Lydia Duncan, daughter of Alfred Duncan, a gunsmith. Could Lydia Duncan and Margaret Lydia Campbell be the same person? I would like to connect my family to "old George", but this discrepancy has put this connection in doubt. I would welcome any feedback anyone may have about this relationship. Thanks.
