Hey Gang, I had a major pc crash and have had to get a new pc. I've lost all emails that i've received in the last few months, and all email addresses......so, if you all wouldn't mind, and in your spare time, can you resend me all email that you have sent to me personally, or just an email with nothing written on it, so that I can get your email addresses and get my address book back up to par. I'm sorry for this inconvenience, since I've gotten lots of pics and family lines that I was supposed to add to Birdtracks, and I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get them loaded. Now I know :-( Thank you everyone, for being patient with me. I will get back to work very shortly!! Hi Rose & all--I have recently purchased the 1880 US Census - there are 712 Birdwell's mentioned in it. It goes back to Birdwell's born in 1795 (David) Sullivan, TN. I am going to be leaving on Oct. 1st for 2 weeks but after that if anyone wants me to check anything for them. Just email me and give me the name of person, either the age or date of birth and where born. I will need that since there are so many Birdwell's with the same first names. You find out who they were living with in 1880 & you can check out and see if there were any Birdwell's living close by. With David I found Jesse and Mary Birdwell and their children and Hariet Birdwell and her sister (Hariet born in 1809 is listed as B for black but born in TN). I have also found 3 sisters: Elizabeth born 1798; Jane born 1806; Nancy born 1807, children of Benjamin. I also found a Benjamin born in 1803 and his children and Reuel and Harriet C Birdwell and their children as the 3 sister's neighbors. Velma
I think that someone put the ancestry of Donald Gene Birdwell, b. ca 1940 in Texas, out one time. I have lost it. Will someone please send it to me again. Jim Bryant
Hey Gang, Barbie Mann sent this newspaper article to me today, so thought that I would pass it on to you all. I will also write to the reporters who wrote this article, and see if I can find out where Brian is hospitalized. God Bless America! Rose Area families feel gamut of emotions Date September 14, 2001 Source LILA LAHOOD;ELLENA FORTNER MORRISON Star-Telegram Staff Writers Section NEWS Edition FINAL It was a solemn salute from the president of the United States to a wounded soldier, an Army veteran lying in a hospital bed with third-degree burns covering his face, arms and hands. Lt. Col. Brian Birdwell, 39, a victim of Tuesday's terrorist attack on the Pentagon, struggled to reciprocate, ever so slowly. "When the president saw Brian starting to salute back, he held his salute until Brian completed his salute... [He] almost got his salute completely up to his head and down," said Birdwell's brother, Wade Birdwell of Mansfield. Wade Birdwell, a Fort Worth attorney, wasn't there to witness the president's visit at Washington Hospital Center. He was still on the road Thursday when his sister-in-law and a nurse recounted the meeting in a telephone call to Wade Birdwell as he drove from Texas to Washington. When Brian Birdwell's wife, Melva, told Bush that her husband was a fellow Texan, Wade Birdwell said, the president "hugged her and kissed her and gave her his and the first lady's love to my nephew Matthew," Brian Birdwell's 12-year-old son. Wade Birdwell, his wife, the couple's daughter and his mother left for Washington Wednesday evening and expected to arrive at the hospital early today. Brian Birdwell's Pentagon office was near the point where the hijacked plane slammed into the building, but he survived because he was not at his desk at the time of impact. As rescuers pulled people from the fringes of the devastated area Tuesday, colleagues recognized Brian Birdwell lying on a stretcher. They put him in a van and raced to Georgetown University Hospital, driving over sidewalks to get there, Wade Birdwell said. He was later moved to Washington Hospital Center. Brian Birdwell has been assigned to the Pentagon for a year. He is a Persian Gulf War veteran and has been in the Army 17 years, his brother said. Like the Birdwells, another area family considered themselves lucky that their relatives survived the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center in New York... ...The Birdwell family, meanwhile, prays that Brian Birdwell continues his recovery. He was listed in critical condition Thursday but is improving and will undergo a third round of surgery today, Wade Birdwell said. When he heard about his brother's injury, Wade Birdwell, an attorney with the Fort Worth firm Wallach, Andrews, Florsheim & Stouffer - which changed its name this summer and had been identified in previous stories as Wallach & Moore - decided to drive to Washington with his wife, Liz, daughter Alexandra, 3, and mother Loretta Reves. The family received an immediate outpouring of help from friends and colleagues. Before they set out on the road, a local Goodyear service center that learned about Brian Birdwell's situation provided a free tune-up and free tires for their car. And the help continues to appear in unexpected places, such as a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Jackson, Tenn., Wade Birdwell said. "Someone must have overheard me on the telephone because they paid for our meal," he said. Hey Gang, I received a couple of email the this past week, one from Effie: While reading the Fort Worth Star Telegram this morning I happened to run across an article that listed Lt Col. Brian Birdwell of Fort Worth as injured in the Pentagon attack. His wife was listed as Rebba and son Matthew. Brother Wade of Fort Worth was on his way to Washington DC to check on him. I wonder if this is some of ours. The name of the son might be a clue as Matthew Russell had family in and around Fort Worth. and another from Ed Birdwell: > > When President Bush went to visit the wounded from the Pentagon, he >walked > > into a room and was introduced: Mr President, this is LTC Brian >Birdwell, > > US Army. The President saluted the badly burned soldier and as he >realized > > that the soldier was trying to return the salute, the President held his > > salute for the agonizingly long time it took the soldier to raise his >right > > arm to the salute position. LTC Birdwell and his wife told a friend of >mine > > yesterday that the President's visit was like that of a friend who >offered > > comfort and prayers. Burned over 60% of his body, his morale is sky >high. > > Pray for him and Mr. Bush. Rose, do you have any idea if this is an "Identifiable" Birdwell? Such a tragedy! Ed Does anyone know which family he comes from? Also, does anyone have any suggestions on how we might...as a collective group of Birdwell's, send flowers to this brave young man? Please send your responses to the "gang", so that we can do this as a group? UNITED WE STAND! GOD BLESS AMERICA! I concur with Weldon's 'theories' on Robert Birdwell (born ca 1790) and his relationship to Margaret (the mother) and to the 1803 born Joseph Birdwell, who remained in Jackson County ... Sadly, that's all it is - a theory ... But folks, sometimes through the process of elimination, theories are what is left ... By the way ... how the heck is everybody !!!! I just returned from San Diego CA where I did something EVERYBODY should do ... I saw about 100 people (plus their spouses) that I had not seen in 40 years !!! My high school 40th reunion ... No way to describe the feeling ... trust me when I suggest everyone should do it. Jerry Anderson
Kathy, Robert Birdwell (circa 1790's) found in Benton Co, TN in 1840 & 1850 is probably the same one found in Jackson Co, TN in 1830. So he is part of the Jackson County mystery bunch ... I BELIEVE (not proven) he was the son of Margaret Birdwell who is shown in Jackson Co, TN on the 1820 census with three boys (one son of an appropriate age to be Robert). Based upon the ages of Margaret's children her husband apparently died between 1810-1820. His identity has not been determined. A family tradition (outside the Birdwell family) has it that his name was Joseph Birdwell. But I have some serious doubts if that tradition was completely accurate, or if "Joseph" was his first name. Whatever his name was, Margaret's deceased spouse (and Robert's suspected father) was likely one of the sons of Robert Birdwell (c.1745-c1815). This elder Robert was the eldest son of George Birdwell (c1720-1781). Jackson Co, Tennessee had more than one Birdwell family and the lack of many early records leaves us with several questions as to whom was whose child. In 1830 (Jackson Co) you find Margaret now with just one son in her home, and the next two households were Robert (c1790) and Joseph Birdwell (c1803). Four other Birdwell households were in the same county in 1830 yet those three were in sequence. So my BEST GUESS is that Robert (c1790), Joseph (c1803), and the yet to be identified boy were the sons of Margaret Birdwell and her undetermined husband. I don't believe my later notes on Missouri and Arkansas are extensive enough to offer much help on what became of Robert's kids. But I'll let you know if something 'clicks' later on. What do you show on the Isaac BRIDWELL in the "adjacent county". Do you have him on the 1850 census ? If so, what county lists him and what do they show for his household ?? He might be Isaac BIRDWELL, presumed son of Isaac Birdwell (c1788-c1841). The elder Isaac's father was George (1760), and his grandfather George (c1720-1781). I've not found this younger Isaac Birdwell in 1850. Although he did marry in Benton Co. in 1851 (and died there shortly thereafter). So I would like to know what you might have found out about him. Perhaps we can confirm if he was a son of the elder Isaac of Carroll Co, TN. Good Luck, Weldon J. Birdwell in Montana

Hi list--has anyone found the answer to Kathy's problem of locating information on her Robert Birdwell from Benton Co. TN? If you have, please put it on the list so that we all will have the answer Velma
Looking for anyone who might be able to help with the family of a Robert Birdwell. He was listed in Benton Co TN on the 1840 and 1850 census. He died before the 1860 census. He had known children, Martha, Margaret, George, William and John. There may have been two other daughters Elizabeth and Susannah. Living in Roberts house in 1850 was a 5 year old boy Newton Brown( full name was Isaac Newton Brown) he was the son of Elizabeth. Elizabeth in Aug 1851 married John R. Thomas in Benton Co TN. In the next county over lived a Isaac Bridwell as well. Are these two families related? Elizabeth, George and Margaret moved to Phelps Co MO before 1870. It appears they leave just after the 1860 census. George has a daugher, Sarah born in AR abt 1863. I lose William and John after the 1860 census. They also may have moved to AR or MO. Any help with this group of Birdwell's would be most welcome. Kathy, Killeen, TX

I got this from Dale Langston just a minute ago...and knew I had to pass it on. Please, send a line or two to Aggie. Her address is 3201 42nd St., Lubbock, Texas 79413. Rose Rose, I just called Aggie to start planning for next years reunion and Aggie told me that Joe passed away this morning. Aggie said she took him to the hospital about 9 or 9:30 AM and she doesn't remember much since then. The funeral director was there at the time. I agreeded to contact you and see if you could put out the notice over Birdtracks. I do not have any method of contacting anyone since I do not have a mailing list or email addresses of anyone. I would appreciate it. We arrived home on Friday and have been frantically catching up on mail, watering the yard and visiting and talking with friends. I will start checking the web site Birdtracks and provide you with information you don't have and send copies of documents. Pete and I enjoyed meeting you and I am most impressed with all of your efforts on this web site. This takes a lot of time and I am eager to explore the site. I also would like to contact Effie. Pete said she has the Severn(s) line also. I found this out on the way home. Are you and Effie friends or close kin? Hey Gang, there are 2 new cemeteries listed in Birdtracks (articles>cemeteries), one is the Birdwell Cemetery that Chris Birdwell took us to, the other is the Emory Cemetery, for which I would like to thank Effie Birdwell and Andrea Craig for helping me with. I would also like to thank my DIL, Nikki, for helping me get these cemeteries online. Also, for those of you that do not know this, there is a virus out there that is attaching itself to email. The worst part of this is that you don't have to even open the email to get it. I got it quite a few times yesterday, but....there is a solution to this little monster http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sircam.worm@mm.html I will be adding more today on the reunion 2001 page, so please take a look when you get the chance.
