To all -- I am looking for any available information regarding the family of my gg grandfather, Charles Burd, who was born 25 September 1795, apparently in Tarrytown, Westchester County, New York, and died 19 October 1860 in Tarrytown. He married Charlotte Remsen Strickland (born 12 December 1806, Nyack, Rockland County, New York; died 15 November 1876, Tarrytown) on 2 December 1824; they lived in Rockland County in 1830, moved to Ohio in 1837, and returned to New York in the late 1850's. Charles and Charlotte had the following children: 1. Susanna, b. 10 November 1825, d. 31 May 1875, m. John Cromwell. 2. Ruth, b. 25 August 1827, d. 8 September 1828. 3. Elizabeth Ann, b. 20 December 1828, d. 26 July 1919, did not marry. 4. Julia Ann, b. 1 October 1833, d. 28 March 1890, did not marry. 5. Charles Wesley, b. 16 July 1836, d. 16 November 1910, m. (i) Mary A., (ii) Mary E. 6. Josephine, b. 19 October 1838, d. 19 January 1900, m. John Lynch. 7. Matilda, b. 6 July 1841, d. 22 May 1928, did not marry. 8. William, b. 2 May 1845, d. 16 May 1931, m. Mary Missouri Davis. (William and Mary are my great grandparents.) My brother and I have run into a brick wall attempting to trace the parentage of Charles and his wife Charlotte. Despite the existence of a number of Burds in the Rockland County and northern New Jersey areas at the time, Charles seems to be connected to none of them. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
