Hello Fellow Bird Cousins, My ancestor is Dorothy BIRD b. ca. 1589 Towcester, Northamptonshire, England, she m. 23 Mar 1611 to Thomas LORD, and was the daughter of Robert BIRD born bet. 1555/1560 also in Towcester, he was buried in Towcester 22 July 1622, and his widow Amye (maiden name unknown), was buried there on 19 Apr 1625. Thomas and Dorothy (BIRD) LORD came to America on the ship "Elizabeth and Ann" which sailed on 29 Apr 1635. On the passenger list he is shown as a "smith", age 50; his occupation listing was perhaps a subterfuge to permit him to leave England, a he was a physician and practiced in Hartford, Ct. The family lived first in Cambridge, Ma. but in 1637, joined Rev. Thomas Hooker and his company and with them settled what is now Hartford, Ct. The family was well-to-do and prominent; some of the children were sent to England to be educated. Thomas Lord, Jr. is called the first educated physicia in Ct. Aymie, bpt. 30 Nov. 1626, d. 1691,m. 1647 to John William Gilbert of Hartford Ct.; 8 children viii. Dorothy, bpt. 1 July 1629, d. 1657, m. ca. 1651 to John Ingersoll, of Hartford and Northampton, Ma.
