In the court records of Princess Anne Co. Va July 8,1698, John Byrd and wife Anne, were accused of being "witches, or in league with the Devill" by Jno Pitts and Charles Kinsey. A suit of defamation was filed by John and wife Anne, and judgment was obtained against Pitts and Kinsey. Who was this John and Anne Byrd? Did they leave descendants in VA? The odd thing about this court case is that this same story has been passed down through the descendants of a John Bird(bn. 1750's) wife Jane, who came to Lincoln Co. KY 1783.
