I am trying to find more information on my great grandfather, Thadeus Bird. I am not certain where he was born. In the 1850 U.S. census, he was listed as being born in Kentucky, where his wife, Mary Figg Smith came from. He was born in 1820. He and Mary were married in 1850 in Henderson County, IL. They had two daughters. In 1854 he deserted his wife and 2 children and disappeared. Later he surfaced in Butler County, IA where he was being charged with bigamy, as he had married a woman by the name of Mary Wells sometime between 1854 and 1857. When my greatgrandmother discovered this, she filed for divorce. Butler County has no records of the court proceedings or disposition, and no record of his death there. He has just vanished!! I also would like to know who his parents were. Thadeus is also spelled with 2 "d"s. Beth Wehrle
