Allan Byrd Allan Byrd, 76, of Nitro died Nov. 26, 1998, in General Division, CAMC, after a short illness. He was a retired Navy veteran with 26 years' service, having served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was also retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 10 years' service. He was a member of the VFW, the DAV, the American Legion, the Fleet Reserve, the USS Leyte Association and the Postal Workers Union. Surviving: wife, Edith Fowler Byrd; sons, Richard of Lewisburg, John of Nitro; grandchildren, John Byrd II and Melissa Byrd, both of Nitro. Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro, with the Rev. Harold Goodpaster officiating. Burial will be in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.
