Looking for information on the Covington Fencibles of Drinker's Beech, PA The Covington Fencibles. The 1860's were war years, but the men of Drinker's Beech had been preparing for it. A group of citizens called the Covington Fencibles (homeguards) was organized by Hiram S. Travis in 1845. They had their first meeting at the George Treible Hotel in Dalveville, August 22, 1846. They were subject to the military laws of Pennsylvania, they existed until 1861. The first uniform was Scotch Plaid Coat and white pantaloons, black hat wityh white feathers, red top and plate (1847). Issac Bird and Joseph Bird joined in 1856.
