    1. [BIRD-L] Baylor Bird/Byrd
    2. Hello, I'm a new subscriber to the BIRD list and want to post what I have so far on my family. I first discovered that my gr-grandmother Sarah Ellen Garton's parents were George Garton and Eliza L. Byrd/Bird (b. 1827 NC) who were married in Williamson Co., TN 8 Aug 1844. George and Eliza then migrated to Ripley Co., MO where they appeared on the 1850 census there with their children. Living next door was James Byrd, age 58 b. NC (1792) wife Sarah age 46 b. NC (1804) and is, I believe the father of Eliza L. There is a marriage of James S. Byrd to Sarah Ann Buck in Williamson Co., TN in 1837 and I believe she is #2 marriage for James. A check of the Williamson Co. records revealed James Byrd was the admin. of the estate of Baylor Byrd in 1830. I then found that Baylor Byrd's wife Nancy filed for a pension on his Rev. War service (#R853) and the papers in this file reveal their marriage 4 Oct 1785 and a bible record naming the children as follows: 1. Catherine Byrd - July 9, 1786 2. Temple Byrd - 24 Oct, 1787 (court record in NC show Nancy was admin. on his estate - he died Dec 1809 without issue.) 3. Jenne Byrd - March 23, 1789 4. Richard Byrd - 25 July 1790 Caswell Co.,NC - d. bet 1837-1840 Williamson Co., TN - wife Sina Osburn is a widow on 1840 and 1850 census. 5. James S. Byrd - 5 April 1792 Caswell Co., NC - (is on census 1820 NC, 1830-1840 TN and 1850 MO. Not found in 1860, either died or moved on.) 6. John Byrd - 9 Feb 1794 Caswell Co., NC 7. Mary "Polly" Byrd Sept 1796 Caswell Co., NC 8. Sally Byrd 9 Feb 1799 Caswell Co., NC m. Elijah King Baylor Byrd/Bird is on the 1790-1810 census in Caswell Co., NC - Hillsborough Dist., St. Lukes Twp. He also appears on many land records "Caswell Co.,NC Will & Deed Abstracts" by Kendall/Donaldson 1983. I lost him in 1820 and by 1830 he has died in Williamson Co. I could find no record of a marriage to Nancy in either NC or VA. >From the Genforum website I received information that Baylor Bird is named as a son of Braxton Byrd/Bird and Mary Price of the Middlesex/King & Queen Co. area of Virginia. That marriage a matter of record in several places. James S. Byrd moved to Ripley Co., MO by 1850 and a Mary Byrd who lived with his family, died that year, age 82. Possibly an aunt as I think his grandmother, Mary Price would have been older. I do not know the name of his first wife, mother of the children shown on that census. James and Sarah are gone by 1860 and I would like to find where they went. The children of James S. Byrd and #1 wife as follows: 1. Eliza L. Byrd - b. 1827 NC m. George Garton 2. Susan Byrd - b. 1830 TN - not married by 1860 - lives with brother 3. Emile E. Byrd b. 1831 TN - m James Rawlings in Ripley Co., MO 4. Mary F. Byrd - b. 1832 TN - m. Joshua Jones in Riply Co., MO 5. Alpheous L. Byrd - b. 1833 TN - not married by 1860 - lives Ripley Co.MO with sister Susan 6. Sarah Aremintha Byrd - b. 1834 TN - m. Geo. W. Young Ripley Co., MO - - - - - #2 wife 7. James K. Byrd - b. 1840 TN 8. Edmond Byrd - b. 1842 TN Possibly James and Sarah moved on and someone out there looking for this family. I'm happy to share further details I have and would love to learn more of this line. Pamela Geisler Smith Gresham, OR
