He 1st married 29 Jan 1857, Marion Co., IL [book C, page 127], Mrs. Virginia D. Champ. They were married by Elder Benjamin Coats. Virginia Bird was born 8 March 1840, died 17 Feb 1861 & is buried in Shadden Cemetery, Omega Twp., Marion Co., IL. William Thomas Bird 2nd married 5 oct 1866, Marion Co., IL. [book D, page 38], Mrs. Emma Elizabeth (Sheffield) Huey. They also were married by Benj. Coats, Gospel Minister. Emma was born 4 Oct 1839, IL/KY, died 1 Nov 1908. They had issue Metty Morris Bird, Cleophus Lee Bird, Cornelius Milton Bird, William Thomas Bird Jr., John H. Bird & Mary J. Bird. William T.Bird had step-sons by this marriage. They were James Huey [20 Apr 1859- 10 April 1876] & Jacob Huey [4 or 5 March 1861- 29 Jan 1938]. William & his second wife, Emma, were both buried in Hadden Cemetery, Omega Twp., Marion Co., IL. NOTE: William & Emma Bird were buried in a different cemetery than his first wife Second Generation Metty Morris Bird was born 4 Sept 1867, Xenia, Clay Co., IL., died 8 Aug 1944, Decatur, Macon Co., IL. Metty Bird married circa 1883, William Allen Runyon, son of Charles L. Runyon & Mary M. Sanders. They had issue: Ellis S. Runyon, Lewis Edward Runyon, Spencer Allen Runyon, Mettie M. Runyon, Charles Runyon & Reuben Runyon. Cleophus Lee Bird was born 3 April 1869, died 17 Nov 1952. Cleophus Bird was married 22 May 1893, Omega, Marion Co., IL. [book E, page 31] to Rose Mulvaney. They were married by P. W. Lockard, M.G. Rose Mulvaney was born circa 1871. Cornelius Milton Bird, also known as "Richard" or "Dick", was born 26 May 1871, died 10 or 11 Dec 1948. The "Bird family Bible" gives Cornelius Birds name as "Camillus B. Bird". Mary J. Bird was born 8 Nov 1873, died 1875. William Thomas Bird Jr. was born 16 Aug 1875 [some records give birth as 8 Aug 1877], died Aug 1953. John H. Bird was born 4 Feb 1880, died 18 Jun 1953. Additional Notes: Two Men Injured In Auto Accident: Leo and Richard Bird of Iuka Crash Car at Sandoval Leo and Richard Bird, brothers living on a farm about five miles north of Iuka, were seriously injured about 12:30 p.m. today when their small roadster overturned on State Highway No. 12 about __?__ miles west of Sandoval. The men were enroute to Mascoutah to attend a homecoming. They were brought to St. Mary's hospital in a Centralia Ambulance that had been called to the scene. Upon reaching the local hospital, the men were given treatment by physicians who had been summoned. Richard Bird apparenttly was the most seriously injured. A physician said that his skull may possibly be fractured, while he received a cut on his left hand. Leo Bird suffered possible internal injuries and severe abrasions on his face. Richard was semiconscious upon his arrival at the hospital, while his brother was suffersing intensely from pain. Leo told attendants that he and his brother had passed a truck west of Sandoval where their car overturned upon coming back on their side of the pavement. The small roadster in which they were riding was practically demolished. When asked by attendants relative to their ages, Richard said that both were about 50 years. old. When the car overturned, both men were pinned beneath the wreckage. E. A. Boles of East St. Louis, who was enroute to Centralia, said he came upon the wrecked car and helped extricate the men. he followed the ambulance to this city to render whatever assistance he could.
