I'm looking for information on the family and ancestors of Jacob Bird/Byrd b. 1779 in Tennesse. He married Millea (or Amelia) Dunn Feb 8, 1800 in Greene Co., TN. I know of one child, Mary Bird, b. Jan 2, 1805 in Greene Co., TN; m. Howell Lawson on Feb 13, 1825; d. Feb 24, 1884. This Jacob was probably the son of John and Mary Byrd/Bird. John was b. abt 1750 in Henrico Co., VA, d. in Greene Co. TN bef. 1830. They married in 1774, in Washington Co., NC (which became Greene Co., TN). Their children were: 1. John Bird Jr., b. 1775 in TN, m. Mary Rimmel 2. Jacob Bird (above) 3. David Bird, b. 1784 in VA (?), m. Mary Broyles, d. in Greene Co., TN 4. Mary Bird, b. 1790 in TN, m. Enoch Waters 5. Elizabeth Bird, b. TN, m. Joel Long. In an old letter from J.B. Lawson in Seiverville, TN, he states that the original family in VA spelled their name "Byrd", but the ones that moved to TN changed their name to "Bird." He also says that the TN Birds learned to "drink and dissipate and disgraced their ancient name." If anybody has any further info on any of these people or the name changes it would be greatly appreciated.
