Fellow Bird/Byrd Researchers: A cousin on completely different lines, sent me a collection of abstracts of many Pittsylvania Co VA,deeds, including amongst other names a number of Birds, as she knew I had Sheltons in that county and might find something of use. Below is a list of what she sent me that includes Bird/BYRD I believe that some of the Pigg River references may have been in what ultimately became Henry and/or Franklin Co. I know that the Choates, some of whom were with Bird/Byrd families in Robertson Co TN owned land on Pigg River, it would appear some of it speculatively. FYI, I descend from Robertson Co TNBird/Byrds John Bird/BYRD, son of ???????? and ????????, and Nancy COUTS, d/o John Couts and Leah STARK. John and Nancy's location is somewhat of a mystery; they may have moved to Lawrence or Caroll Co TN, according to other researchers (Ed?). It appears John died before Nancy moved with children to Dade Co MO in the 1850s. A Robert Byrd, who would have been John's contemporary is also there. Henry Bird & Lucinda CHOATE, d/o Powhatan Choate & Winney HALEY. Powhatan, son of Gabriel and Lucy WEBB, m. Stokes Co 1804, moved to Dade Co from Robertson in 1853/4 or thereabouts. >Casselia Bird/BYRD and Wm Michael MARSH, my great grandparents. In the context of researching my Marsh family from the Nansemond VA/Gates,Hertford,Bertie NC area, I am continually struck by how many of the Birds and Choates who were in Robertson Co married names I see frequently in the SW corner of VA and the NW Corner of NC, but not that many other places, these include: BREWER, LANGSTON (Mary Lou), JERNIGAN, HOLMAN, , to name a few. I just can't help but wonder if the Robertson Co, Birds are from that neck of the woods, where unfortunately the early given names parallel the Birds who came down from the Shenandoah Valley (Jacob, Abner, etc.). Bird given names in the Pittsylvania Deeds below are: Francis, Richard, Joseph & wife Hannah, John Lewis and John Lewis Jr., and Samuel There are also some descriptions of signatures. I am not sure if my cousin is working from a microfilm of the original deeds or an abstract book. Does anyone recognize any of these folks??? Hi everyone, I subscribed to this list a few days ago, so I am not aware of what has been going on or who is here. One of my ancestors is a John Bird, who lived in Washington County Illinois in 1840. He was born 1780-1790. Correspondents have reported that before coming to Illinois he lived in the neighborhood of Nashville TN. I have not been able to verify the TN connection, but haven't yet pursued the matter with intensity. I wonder if others here have investigated the John Birds living near Nashville in the early 19th century?
