Linda, I forgot to add that there is some degree of speculation that Thomas T Byrds wife Jane was a full blooded Cherokee. According to an e-mail passed onto me from a cousin and descendant of Thomas daughter Elizabeth who married Jacob Brown Jr., she was one half cherokee. The e-mail came from a member of the Cherokee Nation in N. Carolina reciting some history of this fact. Dates in the e-mail matched up with birth and death dates of Elizabeth. Jacob Jr.'s father was the Jacob Brown that founded Browns Settlement which was one of the Watauga Settlements, the first settlements of early East Tennessee which was a part of North Carolina at the time and so close to Virginia that many thought they were still in Virginia.
