    1. [BIRD-L] Re: Mary Bird grand-dau. of Thomas and Sarah 'Empson' Bird
    2. I descend from 2 Bird lines. Effie Bird (dau. of Elisha and Catherine 'Ringo' Bird of New Jersey) married a Reuben Pownall (Quaker). Reuben and Effie had a daughter named Rachel Pownall. and Mary Bird (here it is highly probable 89%) that she may descend from John and Margaret 'STEELMAN' Bird(m. 1726 in Burlington County, NJ). John Bird was the son of Thomas and Sarah 'EMPSON' Bird of Delaware(a possible descendent of John and Grace 'STEGGE' Bird). Sarah's half-sister married a Thomas Peters in Philadelphia MM in 1717 (a Quaker marriage). I haven't linked this Thomas Peters to my Peters yet but I'm working on this. Mary Bird married James Peters. They had a son John Peters, who was born after James' drowning in the Susquehanna River. Thereafter, I believe Mary took her baby John, and removed back to Philadelphia area. Away from the Indian threat at the time. On my Peters, Our last known ancestor was a James Peters (married Mary Bird) who we are speculating that William Peters (b. 1702) and Elizabeth Bailey as the parents. We know that William and Elizabeth had a son James Peters. We also know that William was a Quaker Representative and that his brother was Secretary of Pennsylvania at the time of James Peters drowning in the Susquehanna River in 1751. Richard had land out in Daulphin County, PA(near the Susquehanna Rivewr) and was considered the Gatekeeper of Real Estate for the Penn Family and was used by the Penn's to kick squatters off lands and settle real estate issues, and concerns that the Penns held at the time. John and Rachel 'POWNALL' Peters had the following children: John, Mary, Rachel, William, Elisha, Margaret, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Abigail. So even the names fit the speculation....but no solid 100% proof. John Peters
