I am so glad to hear from someone with the same problem. Several weeks ago I joined the Bulkeley list and Hazel sent me an exerpt from "THE BULKELEY GENEALOGY" by D. L. Jacobus A footnote at the bottom of page 16, "A guess made years ago, and still repeated by the ignorant, to the effect that Mrs. Dorothy LORD, who with her family came to America in the same ship as the Bulkeleys, was a sister of Rev. Peter Bulkeley has been positively disproved; she was Dorothy BIRD, proved by the marriage license and her father's will.." Well, I am not saying that this is true, but I do believe that when we search high and low for something and there is plenty of info on the subject as in this case, then there is a reason why we can't find the documentation. Here is what my grandfather said: John Ingersoll (1615-84) from Eng. with his bro, Richard; went from Salem, Mass to Hartford, Conn. 1651; to Westfield, Mass; m. 1651 Dorothy Lord (d.1656) dau. of Thomas Lord. Thomas Lord (1585-1667) son of Richard Lord of Towchester County, Northampton, Eng. mother, Joan; from England on the "Elizabeth and Ann". Thomas went to Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1635. He joined Reverand Thomas Hoskins' party in founding Westford, Connecticut in 1636. He married 1610-1611 to Dorothy Bulkeley dau. of Rev. Richard. Married (2) 1616 to Dorothy Bird (1589-1670); dau. of Robert Bird. Well that seems to lead me to believe that Dorothy Bulkeley died before 1616 and he married Dorothy Bird. It is Dorothy Bird that traveled with him to the New World. Do you have a copy of Dorothy's dad's will, Robert Bird? You notice that my grandfather never said which of the ladies were the mother of Dorothy Lord. It all hinges on when Dorothy was born. I put that she was born aft. 1610/11 since that was the marriage date. If she was born after 1616 then she would be the daughter of Dorothy Bird. Do you know of any other children of Thomas Lord?
