    3. I would like to proceed further with my Byrd genealogy, but I dare not go further until I am sure that what I have is correct. Please review the following evidence. If you find an error in what is presented, I would like to hear from you. Richard V. Byrd Savannah, Georgia Descendant of NC Byrds. Widely believed that Richard Byrd (d.1818 Johnston Co., NC) married Elizabeth Sparkman on 30 July 1785. Was Elizabeth Sparkman the only wife of Richard Byrd???????? #1 From NC Archives Original: Richard Byrd's will dated 12 Nov. 1807 Johnson (Johnston) proven November Term 1818 Heir: Grandson Benjmain Byrd, son of Benjamin Byrd. Heir: Zilpha, widow of my son Benjamin. #2 From NC Archives Original: Benjamin Byrd's Estate Papers This may Certify to the honorable Court of Duplin that my husband Benjamin Byrd has lately Deceased Intestate leaving no will & I the widow of the sd Dec'd have given up my right of administration to John Hufham Zilpah Byrd Administration on the Estate of Benjamin Bird To John Huffam 2000 Dollars (Back of Document): Zilpah Byrd To John Hufham Resignation of Administration July Term 1803 Granted #3 NC Archive's book: In October of 1805, a Zilpha Byrd was named guardian to her four children: Pearsis Byrd, Benjamin Byrd, Ann Byrd and William Byrd. (Not an original document) # 4 NC Archive's Book: In March of 1807, a Zilpha Byrd deeded a Negro boy, named Charles, to her four children: Pearcy, Benjamin, Nancy and William Byrd. (Not an original document) (It should be noted that according to "The Researcher's Guide to American Genealogy" by Val D. July Term 1815 Ordered that the Sheriff do Summons & convene upon the Premises a Jury to lay off to Zilpah Cumins her Dower in the lands of her late Husband Benjamin Byrd Deceased, and that Hugh Maxwell attend the said Jury as Surveyor, and make Return thereof to next Court. (Back of Document): To The Sheriff Zilpah Cummins order for Dower 1815 # 6 From NC Archives Original: Benjamin Byrd's Estate We the undersigned being a commitee appointed by the last honerable Court of pleas and quarter Sessions held for the County of Duplin to divide the real estate of Benjamin Byrd Dec'd met agreeable to Order and proceeded with the county Surveyor to act, We lay off to Henry Murphy lot first Beginning at a Stake in rockfish swamp thence So 58 Wt 110 poles to a Stake in the swamp thence down the said swamp So 32 Et 166 poles to a Stake in rockfish Creek thence So 58 Wt 140 poles to a pine thence No 32 Wt 140 poles to a pine thence No 21 Et 134 poles to a stake on the back line thence with Said line to the beginning Containing in the Whole two hundred and thirteen acres be the same more or less unto Henry Murphy his heirs &e being being his prepotionable part as a lawful heir. No 2 We We also lay off to William Byrd the following piece Beginning at a Stake in Goffs Mill Creek on the back line and runs thence So 21 Wt 124 poles to a pine on the back line thence So 32 Wt 26 poles to a stake thence So 58 Wt 94 poles to a Stake thence No 15 Wt 144 poles to a Stake on the back line in said Swamp thence with Said line to the beginning Containing in the whole ninety two acres be the sum more or less unto him the said William Byrd it being his part July 10th day 1821 No 3 July 20th day 1821 We Stake and lay off to Benjamin Byrd the following piece Beginning at a poplar at the edge of Goffs Mill Creek thence running So 15 Et 126 poles to a pine thence No 75 Et 60 poles to a pine thence So 46 poles to a pine thence No 58 Et 49 poles to a stake thence no 15 Wt 144 poles to a stake on the back line in the swamp thence with said line to the beginning Containing eighty acres be the same more or less unto him the said Benjamin Byrd it being his part. Benjamin Byrd 62 born NC Green 23 A Burney 26 (Arthur) Joshua 19 (Isham) (Other children died in Florida) Estimated Birth of Benjamin Byrd, 1798. Math: Benjamin born 1798. William born 1801. Estimated year of marriage of assumed parents, *Benjamin & Zilpha Byrd, 1798. Benjamin dead by 1803. If Richard Byrd & Elizabeth Sparkeman, married 30 July 1785, are the parents of *Benjamin Byrd then he would have married at 13 years of age.
