Gene, Unless I am mistaken, I believe that there were two different groups of Birds in the Franklin County VA area...the first group were in the Ambermerle/Pittsburgh/Spotsylvania Co. area by about 1763. They were Francis, Thomas and Richard Byrd, and most likely they had large families when then were there. A Bird born in or before 1748 (as these were) could not have had parents living in Bedford, but maybe in Lunenburg created in 1746 from Brunswick. They could have lived in Lunenburg before Bedford was formed. They possibly had brothers, Samuel (found in 1772 receiving land on Ready Crk) and John, who followed and produced their own lines of descendents. These are the early Birds that you mentioned could possibly be related to Col William Bird of Westover; and/or the Birds in North Farnham Parish. Were the Prince Edward Co. Birds related to those in Farnham Parish?? How does the Williamson family fit in? The 2nd group of Birds traveled further, and arrived about 35 years later from Loudoun Co about 1800, both in Bedford and Franklin Cos. I would like to hear more about the migration pattern and associated families of this second group--if anyone has that information. Marla .
