    1. [BIRD-L] RE:2 more generations - BYRDS - RIDDLES
    2. Hi, I don't know if these are your relatives but this is what I have on Byrd/Bird-Riddle/Ruddle. I hope it helps. Good luck on your research, Terry Bird The following is from a book called "Ruddle-Riddle genealogy and Biography" (Author: Pauline Ruddle Harman, Pub [US] : P.R. Harman, c1984) that I found at the Allen County Public Library (Ft Wayne, IN) According to this book "Andrew Bird, Sr. and Andrew Bird, Jr. were witnesses." to the will of John Ruddell, Jr. in 1749 and that "The Birds and the Ruddells were closely associated during this period." (from page 13) The following comes from the same book (page 28) CLARA RUDDELL BIRD "Clara was born about 1735 and probably the only girl to Grow up in a family of six brothers. A sister, Ann Ruddell, Was willed a cupboard in their grandfather's (Neal Cook) will , but as no other record can be found, she may not have reached adulthood. Clara married Mounce Bird, Sr., son of Andrew and Magdalene Bird, and in September 1762 they purchased a 550 acre plantation which became known as Red Banks Farm. Although the farm has been through a succession of Owners, the buildings and farm continue in use for agricul- Tural purposes in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Mounce and Clara were parents of eight children; four sons and four daughters. They were: Abraham, Margaret, John, Sarah, Magdalene, Ingabo, William, and Mounce, Jr. The surname spelling was Bird and also Byrd. In the notes of Elsie Byrd Boggs was found a notation that Clara Ruddell had died at her residence on Smith Creek in 1822 at age 87. Her youngest offspring, Mounce, Jr. had married Hannah Pennybacker and was living on Smith Creek in the stone house today known as "Mounce", so it is very possible Clara was living with them at the time of her death. Her husband, Mounce, Sr., had died almost 30 years earlier. Clara and her brother, Cornelius, after 5 generations, Had descendants who were married in Pendleton County, West Virginia on October 23, 1906. The line of descent is As follows: Clara Ruddel Bird……Cornelius Ruddel Mounce Bird, Jr………John Ruddell John Byrd…………….Cornelius Ruddle James W. Byrd……….James Dyer Ruddle John W. Byrd………...Henry Clay Ruddle Don Byrd……………..Lura Ruddle" FOUND on 9/9/99 at http://genforum.familytreemaker.com/ruddell/messages/41.html (genealogyportal.com) Sarah RUDDELL--b. c1741 Augusta Co VA, d. c1797 Cape Girardeau Co MO, married c1762 VA to Amos BYRD b.1737. Would like to know more about the these people. John Byrd, who some sources say married Ann Gillispie. 2. Stephen Byrd, who married Mary (or Polly) Gillispie on April 1, 1794 found in Knox County, TN marriage records. 3. Abraham Byrd, who married Elizabeth (or Betsey) Gillispie on March 20/21, 1799 found in Blount County, TN marriage records 4. Amos Byrd, Jr, who married Ann Gillispie on January 21, 1794 found in Knox County, TN marriage records 5. Moses Byrd, who married Ellender Hughes on February 21, 1805 in Cape Girardeau County, MO 6. Mary/Polly Byrd, who married William Russell 7. Clara/Clarissa Byrd, who married James Russell 8. Sally/Sallie Byrd, who married George Hays on October 22, 1805 in Cape Girardeau County, MO I believe that John married someone else, but several books that had Byrd history listed that he married Ann and not Amos Jr. Amos Byrd came with his family to Cape Girardeau County Missouri in 1799 coming from Tennessee. They settle close to the present day town of Jackson in what became known as Byrd township. Very, very influential family to the county. Stephen and Abraham were involved in politics for the Territory of Missouri. These two brothers both built two story stone homes on their properties. This is why I'm researching the Byrd family. . .a family bought the Stephen Byrd stone house and are trying to restore it and I'm working on getting on the National Register. [Yes, I live in Missouri. . .close to Cape County.] If you would like more info. please just ask. I have figured out some of the next generation of Byrds. But it does get "hairy" with the brothers naming their children after their brothers. Plus two granddaughters of Amos and Sarah married into the BIRD'S that lived south of Cape County. His son Mounce married Clara Ruddell and there was another Ruddell marriage in that family. Have some on Clara's Ruddell family, if you are interested. Am trying to determine the children of Andrew Bird Sr-NJ-Pa-Va. Some of the Ruddell family migrated into KY with Bird family members. Ingabo Byrd; Stephen Ruddell m. 1st Mary Byrd; Clara Ruddell m. Mounce Byrd; Sarah Ruddell m. Amos Byrd; and George Ruddell m. Magdalene Byrd. 5 siblings married 5 siblings.
