My Bird line originated in Pittsylvania/Henry and Franklin Cos, VA. They stayed in the area until about 1817 or so, and are next found in southern Indiana in the 1820 Census. I'm wondering if anyone can give me an idea of who a Joseph Bird is that is in Indiana w/my Birds?? This Joseph Bird, b. 1787 TN (according to Census records), lands in the backyard of my James Bird in Washington Twp, Harrison Co IN about 1830. James Bird was b. about 1765, the son of Samuel Bird, who is first seen receiving land on Ready Creek in Pitts Co. in 1772. According to the 1810 Franklin Co. Census, all of my James' boys are accounted for--so, I don't think Joseph is a son of James (or James father, Samuel, because as far as I can tell, Samuel never left VA.) This Joseph Bird has a son named Samuel b. about 1818 TN, who, in 1840, is 6 lines away from my Mason Bird (son of James) in Crawford County, IN (just across the river). Although I can't find the connection, everyone seems pretty tight. :>) The bigger picture is this: In the 1820 Harrison Co IN Census, there is a William Bird, b. about 1785 directly next to my James Bird...then he disappears before the 1830 Census, and Joseph Bird appears by 1830. There was a Cholera epidemic in the area in the 1830's....So, I don't know where William went or where Joseph came from. There is also a Jonathan Bird w/family in the 1820 Census of Crawford County. He disappears from the area as well. Marla __________________________ 1 Joseph Bird Sr. b. 1787 Tn m. 1st) unknown. This family appears in 1830 Harrison County, IN Census on page 170.
