Hello, fellow Bird researchers: Just wanted to let everyone know I have connected Isaac S. Bird, b 1800, who was a Justice of the Peace in Morristown, NJ back to Anthony Bird of Staten Island (Richmond Co), New York. Anthony's son Abraham was Isaac's father. Isaac had a brother Thomas Semon (Seaman?) Bird, who married Phebe Brown OGDEN and lived in Elizabeth, NJ. If anyone wants the documentation on this, or if anyone has any information on Anthony's family or other Birds from Staten Island, please contact me. There are not a lot of online records for the pre 1800s migration of European peoples, even less for Native American's and African slaves, so the Rare Book site might hold the key to our research. Hopefully they will eventually post more of the names indexes. Grant "If I had it to do over again I would..." Grant
Birds were possibly Indian traders or connected to the Indian trade in the southeast, as the name is listed in the surname index of a three volume set of Indian Affairs journals, located at http://members.aol.com/rarebk Once at the site, go to Booklists, then Native American Genealogy, and scroll down to the Cherokee Ancestry CD. There you will see a link to the surnames. This site also has an on-line tutorial that shows how to do Native American Genealogy research (the 1835 Cherokee census is within that) and explains the rolls in detail, also some CD's that look to have lots of resource material, and a surname index to Starr's "Old Cherokee Families and their Genealogy." There is more, but too much to list here. Steve ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! I'm looking for parents for Elizabeth Bird. B. 1817 supposedly in Pa. But I think she might have arrived in Indiana by way of Tennessee. Elizabeth marrried Thomas Blair in 1837, in Lawrence Co. IN. Do any of you know of any Bird families in or around Lawrence Co. within a reasonable time period? Hopefully, Sue
I am looking for my ancestors. William BIRD was married to Sarah TYLER They had a least 2 children. William BIRD born about 1806 at Diss, Norfolk, England. John BIRD William BIRD was tried with brother John for burglary at Warwick, England 27.3.1824. They were convicted and transported to Australia on "The Minerva". Prior to his arrest William was described as a bellows maker of Birmingham. I would like to know their family history if possible. Thank you Regards S. Bird.
Shirley: Do you know by chance if there was an Alfred Bird associated with the Birds you mentioned in your letter. He was born around 1800 and married an Elizabeth Moore in Eastern, North Carolina. Fellow Byrd/Bird Researchers: Here are some more records from the area around Pittsylvania Co VA, these are Bird/Byrds in Henry Co Deeds and Franklin Co Wills, I have repeated the Pittsylvania Deeds that I had posted last time. Again, there are several of us researchers that think some of these Byrds (Francis is of particular interest) moved west to Russell/Washington Co VA and adjoining TN Counties, and then some on to Robertson Co TN, where it is believed that my John BYRD married Nancy COUTS ca 1820 or so. Anyone with any thoughts as to where these Byrds originally hailed from is of great interest. Just because I have been doing alot of other research in Gates/Bertie/Hertford NC Cos, Nansemond/Southampton/Isle of Wight VA counties, I tend to think they well could have come from that area. One of the other descendants of a Robertson Co TN Byrd said another cousin has said for some time that their Byrds were from Hertford Co...unfortunately for us all (me doubly over)...a very, very burned county in NC Best Regards, Janet Hunter FRANKLIN CO VA WILLS from Franklin County, Virginia Wills 1786-1812, by T.L.C. Does anyone have any information about a Thomas Bird/Byrd that was born in the late 1840's-early 1850's in TN. He has connections to the Byrds from Ireland, Virginia, Alambama and North Carolina. I am at a hault in my search for him. This is the information I have for him. 1910 New Mexico census: He lists his age at 60 (1850) being born in TN, his father born in Virginia and his mother born in NC. I900 New Mexico census: He lists his age as 47 birth November of 1852-place of birth TN, Father's place of birth Alabama, mother's birth place North Carolina Thomas died in NM in 1917 from complications associated with chemicals he used to clean diamonds, it had a bad effect on his memory. This is all I have on him. Any suggestions on where to search would be more than welcomed or information regarding this individual.. Paula JPangier@compuserve.com

I am trying to gather some information on Albert Bird/Byrd. Does anyone have an Albert in their line that was married to either of these names: Annie, Ruth, Margaret, or Mary? I'm not usre of the exact time line but it would be before the 1850's, more likely late 1700's/early 1800's. Any information would be helpful. Thanks, Paula
I am looking for any information on Spirel Byrd married to Sarah ?. they are lsited in the 1860 census in Rutherford, TN. Does anyone have this individual in their Bird line, I would like to know where he was born. Thanks, Paula
Linda, I forgot to add that there is some degree of speculation that Thomas T Byrds wife Jane was a full blooded Cherokee. According to an e-mail passed onto me from a cousin and descendant of Thomas daughter Elizabeth who married Jacob Brown Jr., she was one half cherokee. The e-mail came from a member of the Cherokee Nation in N. Carolina reciting some history of this fact. Dates in the e-mail matched up with birth and death dates of Elizabeth. Jacob Jr.'s father was the Jacob Brown that founded Browns Settlement which was one of the Watauga Settlements, the first settlements of early East Tennessee which was a part of North Carolina at the time and so close to Virginia that many thought they were still in Virginia. Both states even tried to tax these people at times. Looking forward to hearing from you. Danny Cooper Byrd
Linda, My Fifth Great Grandfather was Thomas T. Byrd who died in Robertson County Tenn. in 1805. His brother William Byrd died there in 1809. James Crabtree witnessed Thomas will and was security for letters of administration for Williams wife Betsy Jernigan at Williams death. According to court documents the Crabtrees lived close to Byrds Creek. These Crabtrees and Byrds/Birds migrated with each other from Virginia to East Tenn and then Robertson County Tenn. The 1782 Washington County Virgina Tax List shows 7 Byrds and 11 Crabtrees to include James Crabtree Jr. A Thomas Byrd was Constable on the Holston River in that area. James Crabtree was the Constable of Robertson County at the time he witnessed Thomas T Byrds will in later years. In 1783 the Green County Tax List which is just across the state line from Washington Cty Va. shows James Crabtree and Amos, John and Joseph Bird. The Bird/Byrd name spelling varies depending upon who the scribe was. There are several descendants of Thomas T Byrd researching these familes and connections. We have been looking for Crabtree connections and supposed that there were some Bird/Crabtree marriages out there somewhere. Could you please tell me all that you know of your ancestors marriage or movements around the country before or after the marriage. This might help with the puzzle. I would have to say that you are a descendant of either Thomas, William, John, Francis or Amos Byrd who were all in and around Robertson County. My uneducated guess would be Thomas or William. Danny Cooper Byrd Hi I am try to find my gg-grandmother whom I have very little to go on. I believe she was born around 1796 in Robertson Co........ Tenn. She married John Alfred Crabtree and had 8 children. It is possible she was part Creek Indian. Any information will be appreciated. Linda Crabtree Thorne
Don't know if this will help much, but I checked the 1870 census index for the surname Bird/Byrd and he is not listed in North Carolina, Arkansas, Texas, or Missouri. Good luck, Paula
I just know someone has to have information on Enoch Byrd/Bird. The only place I've found him in is the 1860 Hancock County, TN census at the age of 27, with wife, Elizabeth 24 and sons, Landon 4 and James 1. I I could sure use some help in finding him! Thanks Pat ----- Original Message ----- From: <BIRD-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <BIRD-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 11, 2000 9:00 AM Subject: BIRD-D Digest V00 #149
Linda, I was just told today, as a matter of fact, that there WAS NO Tennessee before 1796. The people were in NC and that's where some early records of them can be found sometimes. Even the 1790 Census for the part of NC that eventually included eastern TN was taken as part of the Salisbury Dist. of NC, with seat of Govt. in the town of Salisbury, which is still in Rowan Co. (formed 1753 from Anson). So, in 1796, Old Tennessee County was in NC, but later in the State of Tennessee, and broken up to create new counties. Part of old TN County went to form Robertson County, TN in 1796. I hope that this helps. --Marla Misty3626@aol.com wrote: > Hi > I am try to find my gg-grandmother whom I have very little to go on.
