    3. Hello James Thank you for answering. I've read about William and Mark BIRD many times. I received an email a year or so ago stating that William and Burgund (Burgoon) Bird may have been brothers arriving in PA from NJ. Burgund and Mary ROBESON BIRD who moved to GA from PA had the following children: Christine, Israel Robeson, Sylvanus, Abraham, Andrew, Sarah and Margaret. 1. [BIRD-L] Isaac Dye m Clarissa Bird/Byrd 1831
    2. Kathleen Walker
    3. Hello Everyone: By way of introduction I am offering my lineage to explain my interest in the Bird/Byrd family. My grandfather, Rudolph Casson m Easter Belle Tarvin 1921 Elzie Mayfield Tarvin m Bertha Thornton 1903 Preston Thornton m Aldora Bryan 1880 Benjamin Bryan m Sarah Ann Dye 1851 Isaac Dye m Clarissa Bird/Byrd 1831 All the above were in Campbell County, KY. I am attempting to discover Clarissa's parents & siblings names and learn about her husband, Isaac Dye. I have the following raw data: The bondsman for Clarissa Bird/Byrd was Foster Byrd. In the 1850 Campbell Co., KY census I found the following: Household 219 John K. Bird, 73, M, farmer, real estate value $900, b. VA Nancy " , 64, F, b. KY Betsey " , 31, F, KY Wm. " , 21, M, Cooper, KY (This is probably John Byrd & Nancy Foster who m 1804 Campbell Co., KY Household 224 John Bird, 26, M, farmer, $800, KY, Married w/in the year Ann " , 21, F, KY, Married w/in the year (This is probably Jno. H. Byrd & Ann Yelton who m 1850 Campbell Co., KY Household 232 Foster Bird , 38, M, farmer, $3,900, KY Margaret " , 37, F, " (yes, there is a ditto here), KY Mildred H. " , 14, F, KY Washington " , 13, M, KY Wm. M. " , 11, M, KY Nancy M. " , 10, F, KY Eliza " , 8, F, KY John H. " , 6, M, KY James " , 5, M, KY Lilia E. " , 3, F, KY Household 235 Isaac Dye , 49, M. farmer, $1,300, N. J. Clarrissa " , 46, F, KY Sarah A. " , 18, F, KY Nancy E. " , 12, F, KY Wm. F. " , 8, M, KY Isaac M. " , 6, M, KY The above data leads me to believe that John K. Bird & Nancy Foster are the parents of Foster & Clarissa, though this is by no means certain. I did not have an index for the 1850 census but was scouring the Grants Lick and Tibbetts Crossing areas where most of my relatives lived. In addition to the above I have family group sheets that were posted on the internet by Pamela East. She identifies Foster Byrd's wife as Margaret True Gosney but I do not find their marriage indexed in the Campbell Co., KY marriage records. Is anyone on this list researching this or these Byrd/Bird families? My interest is especially Clarissa who m Isaac Dye but I like to cast my net rather broadly. When I was in Campbell Co., KY last week I jotted down all the Bird/Byrd marriages listed in the indexes. They only give the marriage year but I would be happy to post that info here. 1. [BIRD-L] William H. M. Bird, Brooklyn/1880
    2. I am looking for someone with information on William H.M. Bird. The Soundex for the 1880 Brooklyn, Kings County, New York Census lists: William H. M. Bird born abt 1822 in England wife, Maria N. Bird born abt 1822 in England son, Josipha Bird, 17, born abt 1863 in England son, William J. Bird, 33, born abt 1847 in England grandson, William J. Bird, 8, born abt 1872 in New York grandson, John J. Bird, 6, born abt 1874 in New York granddaughter, Maria N. Bird, 4, born abt 1876 in New York I think that the son Josipha is actually a misspelling for Joseph and that he is the adopted son of William and Maria. Maria being his birth aunt. My ggrandfather was born Joseph Marston Smith in November 1863 in England. His parents died his first year and he was adopted by his aunt and her husband by the name of Bird. He was sent to America to live with them in 1864. I am hoping to confirm or deny these people as his adopted family. Thank you, Wendy Wiley

    2. Everyone, Thank you for responding to me about whether my mail got through or not. I was having problems with one of my L@rootsweb mails. I could send in to the list, but I was not getting mine back, or anyone else's mailings sent to the list. I thought it was just me, but I have now learned several people were having problems. So far it seems to be with AOL members, I have not heard from anyone outside AOL having problems. I did not know if this list was just slow, or if I needed to report it as well. So I sent out a test to see if it would come back to me. You were all great to reply back to me personally. Thanks again to everyone that helped. Barbara Vestal Byrd

Effie Bird married a Reuben Pownall(son of George Pownall, whose will was witnessed by two KITCHEN's in Buck's County, PA). Reuben(b.1719) & Effie(b.1725) had a daughter named Rachel Pownall and married a John Peters in 1779. John Peters was the son of James & Mary (Bird) Peters. 1. [BIRD-L] More for McEnerny/Bird
    2. Dear Listers, I have found another reference to the changing of the McEnerny/McInerney surname being changed to the "Bird" surname. The following is an excerpt of the history of the Septs of Ireland and the McEnerny name. Anne Marie The sept system was an integral part of Gaelic society and survived and was even propagated by the Norman invaders. The system did not survive the English invasion and colonization of the seventeenth century however, and it became a disadvantage to have a Gaelic sounding name. Anglicization: The Penal laws that were enforced by the colonists attempted to completely subjugate the Gaelic way of life. It is about this time then, that many Gaelic names changed to their Anglo equivalentor translation. This can cause confusion as many of the names were misinterpreted or misspelled. The name McEaneny for example has a number of variants including McAneny and Bird (the Irish word for bird is éan). Mac an Thomáis was converted to Holmes, Mac Gioll a Íosa to MacAleese, etc. The conversion of names beginning with Mac and Mc was even more difficult because the removal of the M sound from the name often completely changed the sound of the name.
