    3. Sue and Gene, I believe I DO know who the father of John Bird is...but let me explain that my first clue was the marriage of Josiah Bird to Sarah Bird in November of 1840 in Lawrence County, IN. I found that Josiah Bird was likely the son of Samuel and Christena Ader, who married in Stokes County, NC Nov. 9, 1811. And I believe that Samuel and John were brothers, and sons of James Bird and Fanny Mason of Franklin County, VA. (This makes Josiah and his wife 1st cousins.) Other brothers to Samuel and John was Mason Bird (Sr.) who lived in Crawford County, IN close to the border of Harrison County. and James Bird, Jr. who died in Harrison County. I'm a descendent of this Mason Bird of Crawford County. I believe that I found Samuel and Christena in the Putnam County, IN 1840 Census, with 8 sons and 3 daughters in their household. Another son, Peter, is found living next door. One of Samuel's sons, Mason Bird (a different one), was born in Harrison County in 1821. So, they were passing through the area, and Lawrence County, on the way to Putnam Co. Several of Samuel and Christena's descendents are buried in Vermilion, IL. One thing, tho, is that this John Bird is found in the 1820 Harrison County Census already with two daughters (he married Elizabeth Prather in Sept of 1819 in Harrison County.) So, I'm assuming that the first two daughters MAY be from a previous marriage. I think that John was born about 1790 in Franklin County, VA. All of the above are assumptions and need further documentation. I be happy to discuss this further with you. 1. Re: [BIRD-L] Dates
    2. I saved this formula for calculating birth dates from another list and I claim neither ownership nor accuracy: REMEMBER THE NUMBER 8870 This is not an error. It is the number to remember when you want to find the birthdate of someone when you only have the date of death and age. Suppose the person died May 6, 1889, at the age of 71 years, 7 months, 9 days. 1- Write the month day year as 18890506 2- Subtract the age at death 710709 3- That gives you the figure 18179797 4- Now subtract 8870 8870 5- The result is 18170927 year 1817, 9th month (Sept), 27th day, or 27 September, 1817 Source Given: Platte Co.
