Hello Everyone, If any one has sent me any messages, yesterday or today. Please resend them. I got bounced off my own list, for a mail box full. Normally I get 400 - 500 messages a day and as often as I go on, about 4 or 5 times a day I have never had a full mail box. It was probably all the "roll call" messages that have been going out from different states and some surname lists (about 5 days now). So please resend any message you may sent as I did not get it. Thank you, Sharon Straight [email protected] List Owner DRUMM. In July you asked about Hezekiah Byrd who married Mariah Monk. I have not found either of the above, however, I have learned that the Byrds and Monks were closely associated, and that there were other marriages. David E. Byrd, b. 1805, NC, (son of William Byrd & Lovey Cherry) m. Nancy Monk in 1835. An excerpt from the Hardin Co. Tennessee Historical Society quarterly Vol.IV, Oct-Dec. 1986 as follows: Some Notes on Interrelated pioneer Batchelor, Cherry, Monk, and Byrd families of Hardin County Tennessee- - " Among the early settlers of the southwestern portion of Hardin County, Tennessee, were the interrelated Batchelor, Cherry, Monk, and Byrd families. These families intermarried in complicated ways in Hardin County and for generations previous to their settlement in Tennessee. It is interesting to note as well that several of these families were already closely linked from their settlement in southeastern Virginia in the 17th Century. It is not unlikely that some of these families had ties which went back to England." It goes on to say: "Among the very early settlers of Hardin County was Strawhorn or Strayhorn Monk. He appears in the county court records as early as Jan 8, 1822, as one of the several jurors appointed to lay off a road from Horse Creek to the Wayne County line. Some confusion surrounds his identity in the records of thecounty. In his #Early History of Hardin County,", P>M> Harbert states: "in the vicinity now called Pickwick, the white men found a rather prosperous tribe of Indians whose chief was called Strawhorn Monk. He is said to have had large possessions of horses and other property; this lot of Indians was unusually friendly to the invading white man." (47) It does not in fact seem likely that Strawhorn Monk was an Indian, nor was he in the county prior to the arrival of the "white men". (and women) who settled the county. Strawhorn Monk appears on the 1810 census in Martin Co., North Carolina. Perhaps the unusual given name Strawhorn suggested Indian blood to Mr. Harbert; however, this is a family name found in southeastern Virginia, and is probably a phonetic spelling of the Scottish name Strachan. In any case, according to the census date, Strawhorn Monk was born circa 1787 in North Carolina, and he appears to have died in Hardin County sometime between 1850 and 1860. By the latter date, all of his known children had moved to the Pine Bluff area of Jefferson County, Arkansas, or to Hot Spring(late Grant) Co9unty, Arkansas, His children by Talitha Cherry have been give (sic) above. At present the parentage of Strawhorn Monk is not known." If any of this is new information to you, I hope it helps. Bettie
I should have made this a little clearer, but failed to do so . Sorry. Lenoir County is in NC, and Lenoir Institute is in Lenoir County. I have been looking for ancestors in the 1860 census cd and have found some (5 or 6) and they are listed as living in Lenoir County, Lenoir Institute. What is Lenoir Institute ? Are all my ancestors residents of an Insane Asylum, T.B. Sanitorium, prison, or what ? 4 Generations of Birds of Rye, Westchester Co., New York The following comes from a range of sources (including a 1792 will) and certainly is expected to be upgraded. As it is, someone may be able to link in. Of course, I would welcome any further information about any of these people. 1-1 Henry Bird (b abt 1735??) m Mathew Kniffen (parents: Thomas & Ann Kniffen) had 5 (or more) children: William, Levinah, Thomas, Henry, James 2-3 Thomas Bird had at least one son, Henry 2-4 Henry Bird (d abt 1792) m Leah Latten (father: Benjamin Latten) 2-5 James Bird (b abt 1765?? d 1832) seem to have had at least 8 children: Andrew, Adolphus, Alexander, William, James Jr., Thomas, Leah, Henry The first two generations link only loosely to the next two -- James seems to be the father of Andrew S. Bird 3-1 Andrew S. Bird (b abt 1800??) m Rachel Sniffen probably had at least 7 children: Oscar, Andrew Jr., Thomas, Jacob, Rachel, Susan, Martha Jane 4-1 Oscar Nelson Bird (1835-1883) m Elmira A. Bouton (1838-1920, parent Seymour and Mary Hadley Bouton) had 2 children 4-7 Martha Jane Bird (d 1873) m John Moore Robert McK. Bird

I today received 3 GenForum messages, which I am not opening! They are one the AUSTIN, BYRD & BUSH lists. Pam [email protected] p.s. I just read on the listowner list a message that you can read the digests with a word processor, rather than reading them as you normally do. Hope this helps. Hello everyone, Just wanted to let you know what is going on. I copied this message from one of the List Owners on the Listowners mailing list. "The message that you received from GenForum last night was SPAM. They attempted to send it to all of the Rootsweb lists, and caused the Rootsweb server to crash. GenForum is known to have engaged in other unethical behavior such as unwarranted censorship and threats against posters, and is alleged to have stolen copyrighted material." Now, all my listed are closed. I did not receive the message that was sent. I should have been sent a message from the server about it, but I didn't get that either. Don't know if he got to all the mailing lists before Rootsweb crashed or not. If any one got a strange message (they might have got the names individually) would you please let me know. It would be in reference to GenForum and probably from Chris Shaw. If he continues to do this, Rootsweb could go the same way as Maiser. If so, there would be no more surname mailing lists, as I don't know where we would go from here. We can not go back to Maiser. Appreciate any help. Thank you, Sharon Straight [email protected] List Owner DRUMM ALLEN-NEW-ENGLAND/NY/NJ/PA BUCKLEY STRAIGHT BIRD "Remember The Maiser - Shoot A Spammer" (Created by Kathryn Graha - "Kathie")
This is my first time sending in a query to this list, hope I'm doing this right. I have a Charlotta BIRD b. 24 March 1794 (where ?) and d. 30 Apr 1849 in Knox Co., OH. She m. ca 1816 PA to Aaron GEARHART. Charlotta's Father is Sylvanus BIRD. I found him on the 1820 Federal Census index in Rush Twp., Northumberland Co., PA. This Sylvanus is the only one by this name listed. Is he the father of Charlotta? I have no further information on Sylvanus BIRD. Any help that you can offer will be greatly appreciated! Janice, I have a Milard Byrd who was born in VA about 1765/1770. She married Edward Smith probably in Montgomery Co, VA about 1784/85 and they were in Pulaski Co, KY in 1802 and from there in 1811 to Hamilton Co, OH and then most of the children went to Boone Co, IN. Edward and Milard both died in Hamilton Co, OH. Milard had a sister, Elizabeth who married John Lincoln Harmon in Montgomery Co, VA in 1787 and the Harmons also went to Pulaski Co, KY, Hamilton Co, OH and Boone or Marion Co, IN. Parents of Milard and Elizabeth were Johnborn in 1726 in Spotsylvania Co, VA and Sarah ??. John was deceased before 1787 and Sarah was married to William Burch when Elizabeth was married. Maybe the three are sisters. That's about all the information I have about them but I do have the descendents of Milard and Edward and some information about the Harmons. Let me know what you think. Bob
