Sorry if this annoys anyone on the list. I have recently managed to delete all my archived E-mail. If anyone is expecting info or responses from me, please send a new message to [email protected] (Patricia BYRD-OSBORNE). I will be out of action for about 1 week (daughter's wedding.) Pat
Dear Fellow Rooters: I will be removing my name from this list for about a month until I get caught up with my business. I must also get my genealogy work in order. To those whom I've made promises, they should be forthcoming very soon. Please feel free to write me via my e-mail address. Thanks, Dana Di Rito Nanakuli, HI dana(HI)
I have a Powell Bird, father of the Rebecca Bird who married Edward Molyneaux. Powell was from Norfolk Co., UK, immigrated to Northumberland Co., PA in 1793, and moved to Lycoming Co. (now Sullivan Co.), PA two years later. Rebecca was said to be the first white child born in Sullivan County. Any connections? Hello, Just wondering if anyone knows of a John Bird from NJ, married to Ann Sutton from England. They lived in NYC, NY in the 1850's. I know of one child of this union named Caroline Sutton Bird. Ann must of died sometime before 1869, because in 1870 John Bird is listed in Jersey City, NJ married to Eliza. Caroline was living with them and they had a son George Bird 1 year old. Caroline was born in NYC in 1853 or so. I was wondering about John Bird's parents and if he had any other children. What happened to George Bird? John is listed in Jersey City 1870 as a butter dealer. Thanks, Kimberly
I think I may have found a lead!! I'm looking for any info to help me tie the following: Jonas Byrd, b. 1795(?), m. Rebecca Turner. Jonas father was William Byrd, b. about 1749, m. Caroline Dalton. That's where we met with a dead-end until now. We believe William's father to be William Byrd III, m. 1) Elizabeth Hill Carter, and 2) Mary Willing. However, we don't know which of these women would be William's mother. If anyone has info on William Byrd III, Elizabeth Hill Carter, or Mary Willing, which would help us locate "our" William as one of their children, please let me know. Hello again everyone, I just wanted to pass this information to you. John Rigdon, used to be connected with GenWeb, I believe he is no longer. I did discover that he was subscribed to our BIRD list, but I have unsubscribed him, as many other list owners are doing. It seems that he is selling the messages that are posted to the lists. I do not want him to profit by what my subscribers are posting, when we are all here to help one another, for free. (Sometimes costs of copying and postage). The list is to help one another when we can, possibly find new "cousins" and to further genealogy. We had enough with GenForum, we don't need another one. I have not check his web site yet, but I will this morning. Hope this information is of some help.. Sharon Straight [email protected] List Owner DRUMM. Dear Sharon and fellow Bird researchers (are we Birders? ;-): Having spent the last seven years dealing with networks and computer security issues, I feel I must comment on your virus warning. There is still no known virus that can be transmitted by simple ascii (character-based) email -- which is what most of use on this list use. However, I must add a caveat: viruses can be attached to uuencoded files and MIME encoded files. In other words if you receive an email which has an attached file (especially MS Word .doc files and Excel .xls files, or any file that is obviously executable code) you should consider scanning with a antivirus software before viewing or opening it. However, you can receive a file with a macro virus in it, save it to your hard disk, and it cannot do any damage until you view or execute it. Older style "boot sector viruses" such as the famous Michelangelo virus can be transmitted by email, but they can't launch themselves from email. So the moral of this is, be careful of attachments but don't worry about plain text email messages. The irony of all this is that I've spent much more time trying to educate people about viruses than actually having to fix virus infected PCs and Macs. Viruses have cost more money in wasted computer professional's time than in lost data (in my estimation). And although software such as McAffee and Dr. Solomons are very good to have, and are extremely effective in removing viruses (if you keep current with the updates), I'm afraid most virus scares on the Internet only benefit those corporations' bottom line. Very soon, with Java and ActiveX applications you will be able to unintentionally receive viruses or other harmful code through your web browser (indeed there are sites on the Net with demonstrations of this technology). But simple ascii email will always be safe. best regards, --Wulf aka: Wulf Gardner Losee [email protected] wrote: > Hello everyone, > > Right now there are alot of virus' messages floating around the > Internet. Hello everyone, Right now there are alot of virus' messages floating around the Internet. I know what virus' can do, years ago I had one destroy my computer. Since then, of course I use a virus protection progam and one even for the web. Some of the virus' that I know by name, I know what they are, hoaxes. However, according to a message picked up this morning in Listowners list, it says there is a new one out, apparently to attack AOL subscribers. Since the new software AOL is using, any message over 2 k is automatically turned into an attachment (which I will say I do not like). According to message when it is downloaded it affects your computer, can pull your password and screen names. The message continued to say that AOL is working very hard at trying to eliminate it and to block it from becoming an attachment to messages. Now, I have not heard any thing from AOL, of which I am a member of course, that is warning any one signing on that there is a virus somewhere there. I sent a message this morning to AOL and asked them about it. We all know stories can start very fast about a new virus. I will let you know what I find out. Mean while, any of you that are concerned about virus' or what to know the latest on virus' here are two sites to check out. http:www.mcafee.com/ this is first page, for more detailed info go to http://www.mcafee.com/support/techdocs/vinfo/fact6.html. Here you can read about every virus known, including PenPal. Another good site is http://ciac.llnl.gov/ again first page. In a message dated 97-08-19 03:07:08 EDT, you write: << I've hit a dead-end when I look for Jonas' father, William Byrd, m Caroline Dalton. I'm sure they were in GA, but so far, can't find where in GA. >> Nancy, I have some information on this family. Some of the descendants moved into Florida about the same time as my ancestors (James A BYRD b ca 1805 m Nancy //.) I have tried unsuccessfully to find a connection. Most of my info came from "Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia" and census records. It looks like you have more on William BYRD than I do. I have a death date of Jun 1831, in Emanuel Co., Ga. Would be glad to compare/exchange info. ************************************ I have just re-checked my database and realized that I have William BYRD II, RS, who married Catherine DALTON. I do not have this William BYRD linked to Jonas (John) BYRD b ca 1795, Bulloch Co. Ga. I have no info on that marriage. William BYRD II b <1760, m Catherine DALTON 1781, Cameron, Alexandria, Va. His parents William BYRD and Bridgette HULINGS (Munce HULINGS). According to my notes, this family came from Berks Co, Pa. where they had a successful mill. (Va>Pa>Ga). They established an "iron works" on the Ogeechee River in Warren Co, Ga. (William BYRD II is referred to as William BYRD "Of Warren Co, Ga." THIS IS THE FAMILY I BELIEVE I AM DESCEDNED FROM. I am still looking for the "missing link." Help me out (someone, anyone) do I have my data confused?? I have found that much of the information from "PWG" is flawed. (and sometimes my interpretation of the data is flawed!) Excited and waiting. Pat

To all -- I am looking for any available information regarding the family of my gg grandfather, Charles Burd, who was born 25 September 1795, apparently in Tarrytown, Westchester County, New York, and died 19 October 1860 in Tarrytown. He married Charlotte Remsen Strickland (born 12 December 1806, Nyack, Rockland County, New York; died 15 November 1876, Tarrytown) on 2 December 1824; they lived in Rockland County in 1830, moved to Ohio in 1837, and returned to New York in the late 1850's. Charles and Charlotte had the following children: 1. Susanna, b. 10 November 1825, d. 31 May 1875, m. John Cromwell. 2. Ruth, b. 25 August 1827, d. 8 September 1828. 3. Mary Missouri Davis. (William and Mary are my great grandparents.) My brother and I have run into a brick wall attempting to trace the parentage of Charles and his wife Charlotte. Despite the existence of a number of Burds in the Rockland County and northern New Jersey areas at the time, Charles seems to be connected to none of them. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Hello Everyone, AOL has installed new e-mail software and it is posing problems. It might only be to AOL subscribers, I don't know yet. However, attachements can be dangerous to some peoples computers, even crash them. I know they become attachments when the size of the message is too long. At this point I can only suggest any one posting to the lists, please try to limit the size of the message (I don't know what it is at this time, I will try to find out). Even if you have to post part 1 and part 2, it would be better than having it turned in to an attachment. AOL has been notified of this problem, I think they would have been better to keep the old e-mail software. If you are on different servers, not AOL, and you are getting messages as attachments, would you please let me know. Thank you, Sharon Straight [email protected] List Owner DRUMM.
