    3. There is also a book by the same author on the Byrd family of that area. There were only 50 copies printed of the book which is approximately 1000 pages. I am trying to get the author, Lloyd Bailey to reprint the book. If any of you are interested in the book, please contact me. We have about 8 people so far who would like a copy of the book. 1. William Campbell BYRD: When and Where?
    2. BILL DECOURSEY
    3. Pat Robinson, The "What", "When" and "Where" is as important as the "Who" in genealogy. You didn't mention what time period or jurisdiction your household of William Campbell BYRD was in; but some of the given names like "William Campbell" and "John Wesley" are familiar names in some of the descendants of John and Susannah (WINTROW) BIRD of Augusta (later Bath) County, VA. You might want to check my "BIRD" and related families research note files posted on the Bath County, VA site at http://www.rootsweb.com//~vabath/ or, if you can provide a little more info like dates, places, sources, etc., I (or others) might be able to help with some clues to the origin of your family. Bill DeCoursey http://www.angelfire.com/mn/itsabouttime ---------------------- The above is in reply to the following: From: "Pat Robinson" <[email protected]> Sun 16:01 Would love to talk to anyone who might be working on this line. 3. Pat, You didn't say when or where these people lived. Makes quite a difference. Are any of them in North Carolina during the early or mid-1800s? I don't have an actual line at present...only a Susan Byrd who m. a Joseph Honeycutt back around 1810 or so. I've run across miscellaneous Byrds, however, in searching the Buncombe, Burke, Yancey Co. area of N.C. The "Charley" seems a common given name in the family. There are some early Byrds included in "The Heritage of the Toe River Valley", dealing with early Yancey County. Elwood BIRD had a number of children, but I do not have their names or dates of birth. When the BIRDS moved into Kansas from Missouri, they settled in the Meade and Garden City areas of Kansas. When they moved to Oklahoma, they settled primarily in the Alva and Enid area of Oklahoma. I hope some of these fit in with your BIRD's as I have come to a dead end on this line. 2. --------------------- Forwarded message: From: [email protected] ( Sandi Gorin) To: [email protected] Date: 97-11-02 09:38:33 EST The following is for your information and warning. This individual has caused much grief to many of us. He has set up a list for every county in the US, every country in the world, every subject imaginable. His server is over-whelmed and bounces like crazy; he has no data on hardly anything. Once you are on ONE of his lists, you automatically get on hundreds of them and he won't let you off. When you follow his unsub directions, they either bounce or don't work. He has said in the past that he will "take over the world" - presumably the genealogy world and he feels soon, no one will be able to do any research without being on one of his lists. He will not answer any of our e-mail and if you write him, he puts you on a list. He has been unable to make any announcements to any of my lists because I have "locked" the lists ... no one but subbers can post and I won't let him on (tho he subscribes to hundreds of lists just to be able to post the info such as below). He is not an honored member of anything! The decision is always yours and I know we are always trying to find new information on our families ... but this one is one that I would never consider getting involved with personally. If you check out his website and go to KY - Barren and all other counties are listed. But you cannot subscribe just to Barren Co - you sub to the whole smear! 3. I recently was on the Virginia Genealogy page and through a link...I'll try to retrace it, if is unknown to those of you who have been receiving the newsletter longer than I have.. I found someone with Bird/Byrd ancestors who said the name came from Hugo Le Bird who arrived in England in 1066 with William the Conqueror and they said they traced the line back through Thomas Le Bird of Middlesex England. I don't know how valid this is, as they did not mention their sources. I am just starting research on the Bird Branch of our family tree. Our connection is through Mary Stanton b.1643 Hartford CT. Her mother Ann Lord b. 1621 , Towcester, Northampton, England Her mother Dorothy Bird b. 1589 Her father Robert Bird b. 1561 Twocester, Northhampton died August 18, 1622 (will) If anyone has connections with these names, please let me know.
